Have you tried unplugging it from the mains for 30 seconds or so and then powering it on again ?

If so, then it sounds like you need to remove the cover and check the C807 capacitor on the main board (near where the hdd is).

not good with all that removing the cover etc

It's easy enough only 5 screws from memory, if you have fitted a hdd to it, you have already taken it off (and refitted it) before

Ok best bet is to take it to a tv repair shop if it's out of warranty. "Usually" when the red light is on and nothing else happens it's an issue with the capacitor, however I have also read that it could just be a corrupt boot loader.

EDIT found the post I was looking to quote:

This is a common error in Vu+ Boxes because of H/W design that case of memory fault.
I test this box in several metods and verifiy of serial prot / usb port and mail bord.
Because of cases listed below this box hangs in Core and bootloader, so all of ports such as USB & Serial
not act and you can not to flash the box.Red light Led & STARTING in panel.
My conclusion for case of this stuck is :
1- havey and complex IMAGEs.
2- havey or not compatible PLUGINs and SKINs.
3- USE of two tuners Simultaneously.
4- OVERHEATING of the box.
5- power SHOCKs.
No jtag or change of parts is needed in many cases.
I have tyied this ways and could flash boexes after dead/stuck in starting.
1- Try only with a usb stick maximum 4gb formated in fat32 & copy bootlader upgrade cfe 3.0 to it.
2- Disconnect Hard drive(power & Sata) and all of other peripherals such as usb pen drive.
3- Disconnect power socket of main board.
4- Rest the box for at least 3 hours.
5- Connect power socket of main board & power cable of the box.
6- Connect USB drive in front panel & power on.
7- If do not read usb turn off & try ofter 15 sec.
8- Repeat step 7 until reading usb.
I hope Vu+ engineers can verify and find "weak point" of this box that make problem.

anyway vuutil.exe does not connect to the box

I didn't think it would, as the box hasn't loaded anything, not even the bootloader.

A

CokeAddict

If it is a 2.5" laptop drive then yes it will go into the Solo2 without any problems.

A

Its from the duo that is dead
The guarantee was 3 years I still have 10 days more

CokeAddict

Its from the duo that is dead

The duo will take either a 2.5" or a 3.5" drive, but the Solo2 only has enough room for a 2.5" drive.

chances are that hdd is 3.5 inch not 2.5 inch, so wont go inside a solo2

@ A it appears my reply's to you last night did not work as I was using Tapatalk.

I have a similar problem with my Duo and I have the capacitors already to fit.

I will try and find time this week to do it and I will try and get some pics at the same time.

It seems a common problem with DUOs. Mine lasted 35 months my mates 30 months.
That usb trick did not work.
Getting the solo2.
Somehow I do feel that most electronics we buy today dont last real long. Still got my 2 DM 7020 and they are still rocking, they must be atleast 6 years old.

A
07-01-2013, 05:37 PM
I can just add that even before I put this plugin The box was rebooting by itself for the last week. I thought it was some cron issue or some thing small but its the power screw up. It was the best box till now.
Have the UNO too which is great hope it will last more that 36 months, 12 have gone already, fingers crossed :o16::D:D:D Lol

Reading this thread got me wondering how long I have had my duo+ will have to see if I can find the paperwork sometime soon.
Same as A I still have my old 7020 as standby.
