diseqc first port thor

I have been intrigued by the discussions on here about motorised setups.So i have gone ahead and ordered a tm2600 motor and a 65cm offset dish.I beleive you point all at true south and then send dish from my tm5402, using usals, to thor,then tinker dish elevation and azimuth for strongest signal.I am a little worried that this dish may not be big enough to recognise thor .Really need to get this right.My location being oxford.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

anything from 80cm to 110cm should be adequate, but I doubt that 65cm is adequate, even if you used an inverto ultra black lnb

On reflection,i should've ordered bigger but i fear neighbours might have something to say.Forgot to mention that i have also ordered the very same lnb you mentioned echelon.Twin black ultra

i think the max dish size with out planning permition is 1 mtr dont matter wat the nabouse say m8

Think i will go ahead with the 65cm dish and let neighbours get used to it.Then one day i'll change for bigger while their not about.Hopefully,they wont notice lol.The scaffold pole i have erected in concrete for mast has dried out a treat.perfectly plumb and rock sold.by the time these items arrive,concrete should be near white.

Oh i see .Yes buried in 3ft concrete.would probably support larger dishes but as i am in a council house,better stick to the rules.Do you think i may get a resonable signal from thor with the 65cm just for the puposes of finding the true arc.

65cm on thor id say you will get some transponders and not others ,i know some councils have relaxed there rules on dishes in recent years too 1m for future reference,
try bbc news 11862.00 H 28000 7/8 should get that with a 65cm

by the way ive got a techno 2600 motor they are v.good ,,,65cm dish ? is it a fortec star ? i had a temporary 60 on thor when i moved house and depending on weather could only just about get a stable signal on nova sport 11766.00 V 28000 7/8 also have a look here ,these are called footprint maps and you can see dish size required for sats at your location _http://www.geo-orbit.org/westhemipgs/fthorp.html

thanks for the link.will deffo check out.my budget for project was limited,so dish is only basic (i think).bought it from **** seller netgadgets and has satgear logo on it.as i say,dish not arrived yet.specs 26 degree offset,antenna gain 38.5dB.reception frequencies 10.70GHz-12.75GHz.all jibberish to me i'm afraid.but you might make something of these numbers.

thats great simon.very new to this as you may have gathered.although i did manage to setup our present fixed dish on 28.2 using dishpointer and one of them cheap inline satfinders.

We all have to start somewhere mate at least you have the benefit of a ground install not having to clamber up and down ladders for adjustments makes life alot easier

Just for reference, I have mentioned it before, on my 70cm dish that was motorised I picked up a small amount of birds 28.2e,23e,19e,13e,9e,4.8e 1/0.8west 5west and 8west(not much on there now). If you do have line of site you should be able to get 30west and 39east I use a small 44cm sky dish on a tripod to get these as trees and building restrict me for doing so on my main dish.

Scroll to the bottom to get the latest. Its a useful list when you are setting up. On the size of dish you have you are probably looking at something similar to my list. Have a look on youtube for how to setup "http://xxx.youtube.com/watch?v=-k_yhxmGlEA", might be a place to start. It's pretty thorough and you can probably skip a few bits (and the motor they have is different). There are other videos and plenty of people on here to give advice.

had no choice really.council revamped our houses on outside with 4" thick sheet insulation and then put a skin over top,which is maybe 3/8" thick.can't get stable fixings at all.hence scaffold tube and the hard stuff.dish mounting will be approx 10ft of ground.

thats brilliant .gonna print that transponder list by aldo.very very useful.thank you.well thats a coincidence.do you know sat paul.i bought my tm5402 from him.and it came with a usb stick,that had all backups of channel list etc.he set the box up for me ready to go for fixed dish.also on the usb stick is that very same youtube vid.very informative indeed.i'm gonna need new channel list when i go motorised me thinks.can i get one here do you think.sat paul recommended i join these forums.

I don't know sat_paul ,just coincidence I guess. Basically that's the video I used when I was learning how to setup my own motorised dish. Most of the other videos don't come close. There probably is a channel list, but once you learn how to use your box you'll end up doing yourself.

Curious, This pole you cemented into the ground, did you weld or bolt a bar to the bottom first? This will stop it spinning round in the concrete like a rotary washing line in high wind.

yes.drilled hole right thru with cobalt bit then screwed bolt thru.bolt sticks out about 3" either side.to stop spin in concrete.bolt being approx 18" from base of scaffold tube
