The new wave of receivers bring substantially more than merely 'fast boot up times'. To name but a few newer audio/video formats are better accommodated, media duties handled better, resource hungry features such as hbbtv, gigabit networking and you've also got the ability to transcode etc etc.

Invariably there maybe some delays to launch. There are no firm prices but expect to pay £450-£500.

It would appear that Dream Multimedia are falling way behind. There's mention of a "Goliath" project on their website but all that's provided is an animated video that reveals nothing. Cccam development (which is obviously a non-official project of DM)
appears to have stopped.

ccc@m has not advanced for quite a few years now and it's been about 3 years since DMM released anything. Image development seemed to dry up around the same time to the point that its clones are better supported in every respect now.

As for the Duo 2......we still wait patiently but one begins to wonder whether or not is will be released now in the light of takers being potentially put off by CS counter measures currently being migrated from Australia to Europe. Counter measures that will see the end of NDS based CS for good it would seem. :(

For the record it is not going to put me off. I already have £400 put by but am getting quite stressed now waiting. :)

Just hope it does get released before the guys in Pyongyang start pushing buttons.:smash:

NO idea where he got the info ! but, what he say is Correct.

Duo2 will be in before End OF MAY.This is Last news from Suppler VU + i hope they do not fail in dates like always they do.

The real date of release no one know even Distributors.. Because is Shipments issue. Prices i know from 3 months ago..but to be honest i have complain about it. Idid not like that policy of prices ,We are trying push VU+ to go cheaper and not follow the Dreambox style...

Ah i hope next time Vu Plus - Maurys not listen Black Hole Team or developers and some people has no idea about Distributional Market for prices...if is for them Vu Plus Duo2 should be 1000 pound today..
But i mean time Vu + should listen them only for Software and Images actually what is their real Job...With all Respect i have for the Team..they are the Best in the Vu Plus Image Black hole.

Maybe not straight away tomorrow, but for sure in end of this Year you will not even find one...( DUO 2 can be double twin tuners = 4 tuners that's why.)
This not mean support will stop Thats one should not be any problem.

Now depend even of any dealers if take many Ultimo's in stock and they can push selling for long they can with their stock..
I am not Fun of Ultimo too ...anyway i like to be in market long it can.

I can tell you something if was not Form Me Duo could be stoop 7 months ago. European Dealers gave them wrong advice...But because i had responsibility UK and Ireland i told them to do not stop even to my own cost...Why gave possibility Copy's and or some diferente Brands has no idea about Linux to get the market ..

Yes, the machine is being de-listed. Stocks in the current supply chain are probably the last you will see of it.

The Duo was actually also pulled earlier this year but a late production batch was re-run simply due to the popularity and demand. Unfortunately the Ultimo does not command the same level of interest to warrant a similar recall. You can never say never and VU 'may' decide to run one further production batch ( I doubt it). The Ultimo will however still continue to be supported. It's a VU product so rest assured it will be supported.

None of this should come as a surprise to anyone. New models come, old models go. The Duo2 is such a high spec machine and along with the Solo2 they simply succeed their predecessors.

Expect the Duo2 for release this month. It will be some machine.

£1000 price tag correct , ill remove myself from the list if so,its going to have to be more than some machine to get that value with the solo 2 out there.

ekko star
05-05-2013, 11:43 PM
No, it won't be £1000. The price is not fixed as yet but you are looking at perhaps half that. Possibly less so...

I think what Darkman is perhaps trying to say is that the Development teams should stick to development and not interfere in the marketing of the machine. If they had their way it would be priced at a huge premium.

No one say will be 1000 pound on market! If you see my early post i say will be maybe 120-130 euro more expensive... Definitely 100 pound more starting Solo2 prices.

I thing ( Ekko Star is right.) he explain proper my meaning. No need to misunderstand.

Darkman, if this Duo2 is priced at £420-450 it will simply be a hugely successful machine! I think VU have already realised the Ultimo probably now has little commercial place in their line up.

We all know how good the Solo2 is...the Duo2 will be one hell of a serious machine for sure. Personally I think if the Solo2 is already priced at approx £300 then the Duo2 will launch in the market between £450-500.

I can see VU+ completely cleaning up at this level of the market.

donki
06-05-2013, 01:09 PM
If it comes in £400+ I think many potential buyers might just start thinking twice because, let's face it, many, if not most, of us CS and with that potentially dropping off, £400 on a box may just not be a sensible option any more.

enrico001u
06-05-2013, 02:49 PM
£400- 500 seems reasonable from my perspective.

Never sensible but you pay for what you get!

ekko star
07-05-2013, 11:23 AM
It's a top end high performance, specialist enthusiasts machine. It'd be quite reasonably priced at £400-500.

If you compare it to the Solo2, the Duo before it and the Ultimo and any other receiver out there, there's little to suggest that's not competitvely priced.

It may not perhaps be 'sensible' for everyone but then again this level of machine is simply not aimed for everyone or ordinary satellite viewing. I'm pretty sure enthusiasts will buy it. The Solo2 was merely a teaser, this is the real deal.

Solo2 is great but the Duo2 is more refined for the enthusiast.

You have to weigh up the feature count as to its worth. The machine is superb.

The finalised 'public' hardware release is now in full production as we speak. The launch inventory will try to accommodate demand but first shipments of launch stock will come through the normal authorised distribution supply chain only.

If you wish to secure a machine best pre-order via reputable source such as the forum sponsor.

Its a satellite box that has the ability to use USB tuners for freeview thanks to third party support, Freesat HD work no problem.
So nothing to boo or applaud, you are just not getting it.

errr, no , sorry

there are some freeview channels like dave that are not on freesat, but are actually subscription on satellite through sly

so in a nutshell, there are some fta channels on freeview that are ppv on sly (and not on freesat) , and there are satellite channels that are fta on freesat and not available on freeview

but as was mentioned earlier, its a satellite box so should do what is advertised to do as such a box, if it does anything else like support wifi sticks , usb sticks , printers , scanners , webcams , usb tuners or any other "device" that requires drivers it should be considered a bonus and not a core item

and you never know, they may actually develop an image or plugins or drivers that may suppport such devices in the future, that being the whole reason why linux is used as its an "open" os

my car didnt have a usb socket when I bought it, you had to pay extra for it in the next model up, was it a reason to boohoo and not buy my car , was it f*** because it still goes to asda and back for the weekly shopping, its core function is a car , not a boombox, and you could use a workaround like an mp3 player or satnav or whatever you wish to have an alternative if it was so badly needed

I would also say that if somebody wants HD freeview, they should buy a FREEVIEW HD enabled tv, or maybe a dedicated box for it, maybe a dvd recorder with built in freeview HD tuners for instance, or get around the problem in some other way

I have HD freeview in my region, but I have no method of decoding it as I dont have anything with those tuners. is it a problem for me ? - no its not, as I get HD channels on satellite from spiderbox, vu , dm800HD , sly HD box etc

I suppose I could get a freeview HD stick for my duo or dreambox if the drivers are in those boxes, but I havent done so and probably wouldnt anyway. there are more HD channels on satellite than on freeview and always will be due to more transponders up there

its certainly not a dealbreaker in my opinion

any ruff date ???

ekko star
30-06-2013, 11:44 AM
No dates on the tuner yet.

As for the Duo2 itself there should be some more information available regards public release dates tomorrow.

In the meantime to clear some confusion around there are of course some sample, pre-production units. However, these are not the finalised public spec and fully functional as the remote control supplied are old ones and some on board hardware features not working as they should i.e. wifi etc etc

I stress these are pre-production units and not the finalised spec. Third party images are also not yet finalised. Once the final consumer spec machine is available (which is the one you are all waiting upon) it will be reviewed.
