6 years isnt that long really mate id say reed switch as well but then again your going to have to get up there to replace reed so would it be worth putting a new one in what are they a bout 40 quid still,i know the e2 error is a 1 error code for all type thing ,might be worth checking connections both ends ,

reed switch :)
While you're changing the switch take some WD40 and lubricate the shaft. Also worth checking that there is still anought grease on the screw. After all it's been 6 years and one really should do this annually anyway.
Jack is worth hanging on to as it's fast.

Yeah, probably a reed switch but I'd short out the cable at the actuator end and meter it back at the controller just to make sure it's not a break in the cable. All the magnetic reed switches I've seen have been fully encapsulated so not sure where you can lube them?

i had e-2 reading on my V-box 2 years ago when heavy snow some water got inside the circuit board on the Actuator arm at the end where the black housing box plastic seal had broken ..it destroyed my Actuator arm but i kept it to use for spare parts and just replaced the Actuator arm ,
this Error is indicating a broken or incorrect cable leading into V-box so yes its unlikely to be sensor and as suggested it likely to be reed switch Error ..V-box manual does list exactly what this error is but pretty much certain that everyone is correct with thier advice here ,
if you cant drive dish with V-box remote manually and still get this error after you unplug V-box .. then sure you wanna check wires for any break .. but as far as im concerned with 6 years use from actuator i'd be very happy personally and just replace it ..there is still some very good heavy duty arms out there at decent price ,
ive had more than 5 years from my V-box however they dont tend to break down or give Error msg for no good reason ...and at the moment i got just over 2 years from my actuator arm without any faults ..but saying that even now im very much considering changing again my Actuator arm in summer time ,
ive not had any oppertunity to grease it very much and its starting to rust up already ...my own fault i know but new arm will always run faster with much less noise and are not the most expensive thing to buy anymore thankfully .
hopefully perhaps its just a bad wire somewhere which will sort your problem ..but do open up black plasic box at end of Actuator arm itself to ensure this is not soaking wet inside or coloured wires in here is not disconnected perhaps or maybbe coloured wire into V-box maybbe the cause ..its just a similar issue that can happen with Disecq motor setup aswell when sat coax causes over-current due to bad connection at F connector ,
Good luck and hope you get this problem resolved without too much hassel .

if it turns out that the actuator has seize , wd40 is great for freeing things off but thats as far as it goes within a few days it will have evaporated or just run off and keep away from the electrical end.
if you do use normal wd40 lubricate it after with a oil or grease , spray grease or even spray oil with ptfe.
