Limited channels in austria with 1.5 m dish on tm5402

Please help..live in austria..have a tm5402 with a sky card but can only receive espn setanta and bbc1 itv etc. Cannot get any sky sports channels? Any help am new to this...and not got much hair left!

better check what is available for your exact location with the size of dish you have

alternatively, load in a tm5402 channel list and check, bearing in mind those channels are focussed on the uk and ireland , not austria

No problem with receiving all Sky channels in Austria with 130 cm dish. Check the signal strength from 28.2 °E. It should be strong enough. It must be the decoding problem.

c5 is free to air but c5HD is scrambled and needs a uk freesat card (but your sly card will do this too if its a uk one)

your signal strength is too low , needs to be more than double what you are seeing

you can check the maps at lyngsat or king of sat or flysat which shows coverage and required dish sizes

dishpointer is another good site for checking reception at a certain location

The 5402 has a higher breakup point dependant on what FEC is used on the Channel/Transponder you are viewing so anything with an 1/2 FEC will have a lower breakup point than an FEC of around 5/6.

But to be perfectly honest how in the hell are you getting 28.2° east when your on the other side of the world and you physically cannot see this Satellite, i always thought the Aussies got Foxtel which is the UK equivalent near enough

30% is to low , dont worry about decoding u need to sort the signal strength first , either dish is not aligned correctly or (dont take this the wrong way ) its a poor quality dish , other member saying hes getting it on a 1.3 dont think austria is that big but could be worth looking at the footprint just incase .

The rest of the Main Sky Bouquet are on Astra 2A which is nearing its end of life cycle after nearly 14 years but most are on the Northern and southern europe beams which you should not have a problem with:

sorry for delay just returned back to austria.... still same problem. it is a fixed dish 1.5 m, have found some tps up to 75% which pull in sky sp 1 and 2 but no 3 and 4 or espn. Should i delete all other sats on tm5402? possibly to many tps on it. my long/lat dont make a difference on a fixed dish do they. My sat says 28.2 astra/eurobird? when in uk it was 2/1n? ive tried dishpointer nothing blocking it...really stuck. should i wipe box clean and start from scratch again? i thought sky sports 1,2,3,4, where all on same tp. really appreciate anybodys help...only a week till the masters!

sky sports 1/2/3/4 all on 12.148h 27500 2/3 plus a few others , espn 12285 v 27500 2/3 again plus a few other frequency's give them a scan see how you get on.

when was the last time they were working , maybe worth rescaning the whole sat again or upload a new channel list.

I have read on various forums where those tm5402 boxes can have problems with some vertical channels when they share an lnb with other feeds, so worth trying it as a single lnb feed and any other feeds disconnected. no explanations have been given for this bizarre behaviour, and sometimes swapping the lnb feed to a different output from the quad or octo lnb has cured the problem with no definite reason either

if its a single lnb feed then maybe try a different lnb, but if its a multiple lnb then this bizarre behaviour has been known with this tm5402 and yet a different box can work fine using the same lnb feed, meaning it may work fine on a spiderbox or vu or dreambox but not when you connect the tm5402

there are various sly sports channels so maybe the failures are on a vertical transponder and not the horizontal one listed above ?

maybe its worth detailing affected transponders instead of just giving channel names as sometimes you get more than one instance of the same channels, sometimes using different transponders ? (ie - be more specific)

longitude and latitude make no difference on a fixed dish system, but location and good line of sight are important (no blockages like brick walls etc)

too many channels and transponders can also cause problems , but should not happen on 28.2e as less than 1000 channels

according to king of sat the sly sports channels and espn are spread between 12110 H 27500 and 12148 H 27500 and 12207 V 27500 and 12285 V 27500

maybe try a new channel list , like the two I recently found elsewhere and now attached (by happy highlander and for the tm5402 and blade bm7000s))

tx echelon for your time and input. i played about b4 anf tp 11469 27500 h got a 93% signal, which makes me think dish is aligned ok. if i install this channel list via usb, do i factory reset b4 or after or not at all. then do i just select 28.2 and do a blind scan. my f/w is 128p at moment on fixed dish. is it worth deleting all other sats also?

cozzie; ive never had them working..brought box back from uk..had a 60cm dish got nothing i was assured with 1.5 dish id recieve all sky channels. tempted to fac reset and wipe all clean? what u suggest. mentioned in last post tp 11479 got 93% signal strength which ive never had that high b4.saved that tp then scanned again but still same. i must be doing something wrong! tx for all ur help

nobody mentioned either of those 2 transponders, I mentioned the 4 transponders with various sly sports and espn channels after checking some of them on my spiderbox

I also told you to check all this at king of sat or lyngsat, and yet you never report back on what you have been asked to do,

I even uploaded a preset channel list made a few days ago by somebody who has the same box as you, you dont appear to have done that either
if you load a premade list in, there is no need to do any channel scanning like blind scanning. the work was already done by the channel list uploader

if you check king of sat using sky sports as the search it clearly lists each channel and transponder and they are spread over 4 of them, not all on one transponder

I am not sure you do anything asked of you, you report back on totally different information and no feedback on the info provided

and you listed 11469 and 11479 in your last 2 posts but did not mention the exact channels found to be working on it

I listed 12110 H 27500 and 12148 H 27500 and 12207 V 27500 and 12285 V 27500 which have working espn and sly sports

I would factory reset, load a channel list and test the channels, and thats all I would do, noting down the exact details on some working channels and also any failures, starting with sly sports and espn, no need to scan at all

on my spiderbox they are as follows



SLY SPTS 1 , service id 4221 on 12110 H 27500

SLY SPTS 2 , service id 4222 on 12207 V 27500

SLY SPTS 3 , service id 4219 on 12110 H 27500

SLY SPTS 4 , service id 5401 on 12148 H 27500

ESPN , service id 6037 on 12285 V 27500


there are duplicates on various transponders that I have mentioned, but I have double checked all the above as good signals and working fine here on my spiderbox

12207 V 27500 also has sly news and pick tv on it which are all fta

luis and digicon have already indicated your 1.5 metre dish is big enough to get 28.2e in AUSTRIA

first of all i apologise for my naiveity on this matter.. ii am a total newbie to this sat buisness. I thank you in advance for your time and patience.
Anyway i have followed your instructions above, fac reset, loaded the channel list CNDF file, all success. Then when i checked channel list... first went to sly sly sports 1,2,3,4, all listed under tp 12589 h. sly 1 and 2 working fine but 3 and 4 were duplicates of 1 and 2 all on same tp. sky atlantic 12414 v not working, espn didnt even show up !Anyway so this method clearly didnt work as im on 128 p i went to tm-online option and uploaded latest channels.
things beacame interesting then for instance sly 1 was on tp 12343h kingssat 12344...also on 12284 v when should be 12285v. sly sports 1 was on tp 12109 when should be 12110. sly sp 4 came thru on 12148 h which i believe to be correct but tm online has loaded in movie channels but all tps seem to be out by 1 on last digit ie .sky thriller 12011 v should be 12012. This makes me think dish or lnb..which is a single grundig lnb. strange thing when playing about on sat set up i turned lnb power off and signal strenght was boosted from 65 to 90 on most tps. I did try another search then but to no avail!!! I hope this is enough feedback on my problem...should i have a motor fixed? Or i hope you being a genius has another solution. Once again i apologise as im new to this and really appreciate your help!! Also my opions might be totally incorrect so pls i welcome all views.... I cant miss the Masters in a week!! ty all especially ech!

try as ech said disconnect all other connections at the lnb then rescan or try channel list again.
im old school prefer to rescan defiantly if you got a problem with freq slightly out as you are reporting, althou im unsure if .1 you saying will make a difference.

no if you only got a single lnb then that will not be a problem, id just do a scan of the sat if the freq are out see how you go from there.

motor install definitely not , fixed is hard enough.:eek: you do not need to disconnect.

unplug the box from the mains 10 min , power up and do a scan , then come back .

the fact that its 1 out makes no difference at all and I got that with my spiderbox when checking the details last week, but I gave the exact details from king of sat and lyngsat when I quoted the channels. you can probably have it out by say between 3 and 5 and it would still work and we used that trick on pltv on 10e to separate certain biss channels, so being 1 out is neither here nor there and its not surprising that it isnt "bang on" as you may be lucky to get it 100% correct anyway

although a motorised dish may help, the fact you have a 1.5 metre dish means you need a polar mount , jack arm type 36 volt motor and a vbox as well, and the specialised cable to motorise this dish, and to sort out the channel list to talk to the vbox too, so no easy task

my thoughts are that this grundig lnb is old or is faulty, it needs to be universal and able to switch to 4 states

the high and low are switched by 22khz tone so make sure that is switched on in your box settings in order to switch it high

the voltage also changes from 13v to 18v to sort out Horizontal and Vertical

so I would also check H and V channels on that prepared list to ensure the voltage is switching correctly too

I would definitely change the lnb for something like the inverto ultra black universal , as I strongly suspect its faulty or the wrong type

I would also load that channel list I gave you back into the box and use it, as it was a working and recent list from somebody else who owns the same box, and i have tested those sports channels myself and all work correctly with the correct channels and names (so dont blame the list)

the point here was to work from known parameters, and we know that list is prepared by an owner with the same box, has been doing this for a few years and has many users using his list and I know its working as it should

so by elimination, you load his list and we know its not that

you test channels and have problems still, which is either the box settings or an lnb fault

you dont add to your problems with a motorised dish, you solve the problems that currently exist, I now believe this is the 22khz tone which isnt switching the lnb, which is either a box fault or an lnb fault



so my advice is :-

1) check the settings for the 22khz tone are switched on, which they probably are (even if the lnb isnt accepting it)

lnb power should be ON , LNB type = UNIVERSAL , lnb freq = 9750/10600 , 22khz = AUTO

2) check H and V channels are working using the prepared list which would indicate the voltages are ok

3) try the box using the prepared list on another dish and lnb, to rule out the box completely

4) change the lnb for a universal lnb, preferably an inverto ultra black universal lnb

and leave that prepared list by happy highlander on the box until you solve your problems, dont swap and change at all
report back with any info on my suggestions once that list is loaded, if he uploads any new lists I will upload them here for you
