Please forgive me if the subject was covered elsewhere before, but please folks use common sense while installing anything on heights.
Never go up the ladder under influence of booze /other
Always do a proper survey to see what tools you need to complete the job safely.
If you need to use ladders make sure (whenever possible) that someone is with you so you have someone to pass you tools and foot the ladder.
If you need to use any kind of meters make sure you can do it without over streching while on the ladder, meters can help but can also be lethal, imagine your ladder leaning against the wall- to connect the meter you would have to over-stretch to plug it to the lnb.
Never install your dish in the rain. If you are lucky it will only kill your lnb/receiver, if you are not it will kill you, if the rain drops on the cable short circuting the cable its enough to scare anyone to loose footing/grip not to mention the slippery steps on the ladder.
If you install big dishes always try to stage the job ie: mark holes install the bracket and seat the dish on it last, so you don`t need to carry the weight of the dish for too long.
If at the time of installation you are unsure of something stop, get down and think again, do not try to do anything silly just because you are up there already. sometimes you can be succesful, but most times you will do more damage than good.
Sometimes (unless you really know what you are doing) it is worth to call the professional in, it a long run it will cost less than doing it yourself.
I am not trying to be a smartass here, just know couple of people who apart from causing damage to their equipment also caused irreversible damage to their bodies (spines are not as easily fixed as the damaged equipment)
And it is only aimed at the new forumers who after reading here how easy it is to install something ourselves are only too happy to put a garden table next to the wall and a chair on top of it to get that little higher with their dish ;) (you know what I mean)
