Hi,

I've had a F&H clone for years. Running Tom Tom One 3rd Edition via the "dummies guide" at pctailor.

I wanted to update it with some new European maps, as Im going on a road trip next week - so I thought I'd update the whole lot.

I'm following the instructions in the sticky (just using the UK maps for now, to see if I can get it to work), but when I get to:
"Click on GPS and wait for the red “Activation Failed” screen. Don’t panic, this is expected. This has generated a file that we will need."

That isn't happening for me - its loading and going straight to the "Select a Map" screen - and tells me "No Maps Found".

Since it doesn't throw the error, I suspect this is why I've been unable to get the activation to work (tried BBS and fastactivator).

Please could someone help?

Well, solved in a way. The 890 maps aren't even recognised by the navcore, so they don't fail - which means you can't get past step 10 of the guide and unlock them.

Downloaded an 880 map, and it worked without any trouble at all.
Then found a Western Europe 885, so sticking with that.

In fact, its even picked up a GPS lock on my home whilst sat on my computer table, nowhere near a window. Did GPS get better recently????

if you read the tutorials and sticky threads you will find that we normally use tom tom one 3rd edition v7.910 so ensure this is on your card

as for maps, ensure they are the ones without ALG or IQ routes, so just the basic maps for a pda

the latest maps that worked for me were v905.4800 so try an older map that is compatible with a pda like 895_4444

the 910 version you mention is the wrong map

here are the notes for it

For navcore versions 9.01* & higher.
ALG, IQ Routes, Cspeech, ASR & HNR

as you can see , it needs a navcore of 9.01 or higher and the one for our f+h/navigo is older as its 7.910

it also mentions ALG and IQ ROUTES, again a no-no for the navigo, so wrong on both counts
