Hi, I was bought this great TomTom Start 25 satnav for my birthday 18 months ago - and have religiously carried out all updates as requested by 'My Tomtom' over the months - GPS, Maps, Speed Cameras, etc - yet now find my current map is version 8.80 and not 9.20, or whatever the current LATEST European Map version now is!
So how can I update from 8.80 to 9.20 without having to actually BUY the latest maps please?

Please also bear in mind that I admit to not being super duper computer literate on this matter, so a 'fools' list/advice would be most appreciated from you brilliant TomTom experts here on Pimps - always assuming I CAN update without buying maps?
Thank you!:respect-059:

hi m8 I have one of these sat navs and it is showing version 9.10. When you had it did you set it up to receive lifetime map updates as I did this with mine and now get regular updates. You will have had to up load your receipt and then receive a code via email which you use to get lifetime map updates.

It worked for me. Hope this helps

Hi Andrew - I'm sure I did all that - but not 100% certain, so will investigate further over weekend mate!
I do get updates thrown at me practically every day, but as I said they are usually 'GPS' type updates!
Thanks for your reply, most appreciated!!:respect-059:

I did register 18 months ago when I got my Start 25 satnav - presumably for free lifetime map updates - yet yesterday I had two updates - a GPS update sent and a map update by TomTom in 'Manage My Account' - yet after its all done it still shows as 8.80 'outdated map' on 'My Maps' bit - so runiing out of ideas as to how to update to latest maps without having to pay £49 or whatever?
I have also messaged TomTom, but not holding my breath!
All suggestions most welcome thanks!:driving:

Another question, is it possible to 'unofficially' update maps from 8.80 to 9.10 please anyone on Start 25 devices, as Tomtom are currently telling me they are only prepared to 'award' me version 8.90, which is slightly better than nothing I guess?

Sorry holmroad you cant update using maps on this Forum

Later models listed below dont use the Windows fat file system but instead use a Linux based system, and up until now cannot be updated other than by buying maps from tomtom.
It is proving very difficult to crack although some pretty clever individuals have tried.

Models that use v10 navcore
GO 1000
GO 1005
Via 120
Via 125
GO LIVE 800
GO LIVE 825
GO 7100
GO 7150

GO 9100

Sony XNV

So you are saying that this list of devices all use 'v10 navcore mate - thus rendering them un-updatable other that via buying direct from tomtom?

it would appear that the opposite is actually true, that you CANNOT update without buying maps (at the moment anyway)

on the other hand, it would be the correct course of action for a business like tom tom to try to achieve this objective in their business model for the future ;) (so not really surprising)

given that there is now a comprehensive list posted in post #6 of models on navcore v10 that cannot be updated, a good question now would be is - "is there a similar list of previous models with the previous navcores 7 and 8 and 9 that somebody could post ? ", for those who have them or wish to buy them and so could update them with the maps kindly provided on this forum by its members

Cheers Ech - yes what you say above is very interesting, I just find it a bit frustrating that after having had quite a lot of dosh spent on me last year that I can only now access ver 8.80, although they are now offering me ver 8.90 as a 'gesture' !! lol!! :respect-055:
