The box is connected by ethernet cable to the router, the IP Setup is on Auto and has not been changed.
The router shows that the box is connected but it can now take up to 10 minutes for a line to connect.
Up until recently lines connected as soon as the box was switched on

I have been using the same lines (1 x N and 1 X C) for months with no problems and the providers say that there are no problems at their end.

Other equipment connected to the router - a Smart TV and Youview box - connect to the network without problem.

I have done a factory reset but with no effect nor has a reboot or unplugging from the mains for 5 minutes.
I have also tried enabling just one line or the other but it makes no difference.

Could the box (4 years old) be faulty?

yes it could , or it could be a faulty router, faulty cable , a problem with the dns used or some other obscure problem

try using the google dns servers in 1st dns and 2nd dns

008.008.004.004
208.067.222.222

make sure the patch is dated mar 29 2012 (or newer if using the iks patches)

check the login time on the ethernet cable itself using a laptop to test for internet browsing

check the ethernet cable for any damage or loose connection at either end (or change it)

try the box on a different broadband at a different house

Thanks for the info.
Changing the DNS on the receiver makes no difference and I am not able to change it on the BT HomeHub 3.
I am using the patch dated 29/03/2012
I'm not sure how to check the login time on the ethernet cable (I don't have a laptop BTW:() but the router shows that the Spiderbox is connected i.e.

Devices currently connected to your BT Home Hub:
Wireless network: No devices detected
Ethernet:
Jx-PC00:xx:68:xx:05:ef
braviab128dcb70d5...f0:bf:xx:6d:x x:3c
Unknown-00:xx:61:xx:a1:8e
Unknown-xx:d3:21:xx:7a:7b

The Spiderbox is the one ending 8e and appears as soon as it's switched on

Cables have been changed so about the only option left is to try someone else's broadband connection - although this is looking less and less likely as the cause.
