I had the same problem, I set up the recording via EPG and it didn`t start at all. Turns out that every time I removed the HDD to transfer the recordings to my PC I had to set the settings on the Spiderbox upon reconnection. Now that I keep it connected all the time, it works every time without problems. Only when I swap the HDD for a dongle to flash the stb I need to go back to multimedia settings and reset the the One touch recording to ON and set the maximum recording time to the value that I want, when the HDD goes back. (the maximum recording is set to be 15minutes by default so it is pretty obvious to me now that the recording wont start if I want to record a program that runs longer than that so I reset it to 4hrs to be on a safe side)

A quick follow on question about recording? does this box have auto navigate to different sat's in the advanced timer? It's just that I had a timer set on one sat and another set on a diferent sat and it reecorded the firt one (it was still on that sat) but did not on the second? ( looked a bit like "no signal so shut down")

If you have set a recording then you can put the box into standby but make sure that "timer mode" is set to "recorder" and not left on "schedule" or it will not record.

When you press the `RESERVE` (yellow) button the event Edit screen appears. On the bottom of that screen it says TIMER MODE : SCHEDULE , you need to change it to RECORDER

Press the LIST button on the remote . When the list of your recordings comes up scroll to the recording you want to remove press the yellow button to select it and the blue button to delete, press ok to confirm. You can select more than one recording to be deleted

No, there is nothing on the box. I can only tell by the flashing light on my HDD. But you can check by pressing the INFO on the remote, there is a timer (top left of the screen) if it is recording

what dose the time shift do what should it be set to thanks

It just records every program you are watching , so you can pause a live program and it still records it so you can resume watching whenever you finish doing whatever forced you to pause, also you can rewind the live program to watch something again and carry on watching from that moment again. The setting should be whatever you like it to be, the more MB you set it to the more it records for you to rewind
(but only to the moment you started to watch the channel you currently are watching). Its the same as any half decent PVR this days, like youview or Freeview+, SKy+ etc
There is a good article on this HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_shifting) on wikipedia

Looks like the theory is one thing and reality is another.. I can`t seem to get it working at all :(
Just tried the timeshiftin and cant use it?
Edit: Sorry it works but not as efficiently as my youview box
I can still pull up the SAT screen by the other method (OK and yellow button)

If you don`t intend to use the time shift just turn it to OFF (I just did ;) )Just saying that it does not stop you from getting the SAT screen up, the sat button is not working but the OK+yellow still pulls the Satellites screen up when the Timeshift is set to AUTO

I started to use the timeshift again, and I have to say I like it better than I did yesterday. Not entirely sure about the constant recording yet ( when it is set to AUTO), but I can honestly say that I like the Pause setting. It lets me pause when I need to go and answer the phone etc, and when it is set to Pause, it only starts recording when I press the pause button (unlike the AUTO when it keeps recording all the time). It doesn`t disable the SAT button on the remote control, and lets me use the one and only PVR function I was really interested in (apart from recording.)

On the Spiderbox 9000 HD it does show REC

But surely this thread ref the - " Spiderbox 6000 HD how to record ", and as such has exactly nothing what so ever to do with the Spiderbox 9000 HD.

I`m using external 500GB TOshiba HDD (Store.e Basics) that I bought on fire sale at COMET. It takes the power from the USB port on the Spider so there is no need for any additional power supply. It`s plug and play. I think any semi decent HDD will do the job (formatted correctly)

I use a Verbatim 320gb with no additional power supply .
