I have an original Eagle box from 2007 which I no longer use. I want to have it ready as a back up server in case I have any problems with my working box.

But when I connect the Eagle I can not get any internet connection. I took it apart but I can't see any obvious physical fault, and all the contact wires inside the RJ45 socket are lined up. I have using a known working RJ45 cable.

I might try reloading an image (using the RS232 method), but I can't see why that would be the problem.

Any other ideas?

Yes. Lights are normal - red when switched to stand by, green when switched on.

Reloading an image is the next step, but I think this internet failure occurred soon after I reloaded an image last time I used it. I will try again, but I wondered if anyone had seen this problem before and knew its cause

I have now re-flashed an old known working image. No success.

I then flashed an "erase" image which is supposed to clear the flash completely, then flashed the known working image again. Still no success.

Looks as though it's a hardware problem - any further ideas very welcome.
