just make sure the box is patched, preferably with the latest patch
as for epg download, check this sticky thread here https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?160124-FAQ-for-tm5402s-HD-box where it was covered in great detail
Hello!
At 28.2E I receive the 7days EPG on my TM5402-M2 with no problem, but at Thor 0.8W I only get now and next.
Yesterday I helped a friend who has bought a VU+Solo2, and we managed to receive the full EPG at 0.8W Vh1-classic.
Most of the channels of interest are on Canal Digital Norway 0.8W.

yes , the vu is an E2 stb and the crossepg plugin is much more elaborate and functional when it comes to downloading the epg from a variety of sources in order to populate its epg (not just on 28e)
it also costs a lot more money than the tm does, this difference in price is reflected in what it is capable of, as you have already seen
you pay as well be comparing water with wine , they both quench the thirst but clearly one can do a lot more than the other and contains more ingredients than the other
