Hi
I am posting this sticky thread in order to get details of working tom tom units that allow you to use the maps provided on this forum
some details were published here https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?164428-United-Kingdom-and-Republic-of-Ireland-v920-5241-map
namely
Most devices that have got navcore version 7, 8 or 9 -
which is most of the older Tomtoms
ie:- TOMTOM- One, One XL, Go *00, *10, *20, *30, *40, *50 )
(& probably a few others I've missed) can use the copied
maps that have got the me ta file info for them.
I would like to keep this thread updated with models that do work
(and maybe a list of the newer ones that dont work too
like the latest ones that can't
such as the Smart, Via or Live ranges.)
so any links or copy and paste of suitable models would be required if possible
this will help people wishing to purchase a second hand tomtom and know that it falls
in the required parameters to allow the maps on here to be used,
and so avoid further confusion
thank you
ps:- so nearly all the older units can use the copied maps, it's just the latest ones that can't such as the Smart, Via or Live ranges.
more info
The Tomtom Go *00, *10, *22, *30, *40 & *50 - the * can be 3, 5, 7 or 9 & usually the higher the first number - the bigger the internal memory) units can all use copied maps.
The higher the middle number - the later the model -
preferably do not go for any *00 or *10 units.
They have also got a bluetooth feature so they can be used as a hands-free device for mobile phones. the later models are better - like the Go730. (which has hands free)
If you don't need hands-free, then look at the Tomtom One range
the main difference between them is the screen size - generally the more you pay the bigger the screen.
You could also check out Halfords - they sometimes have some good special offers and can also get free lifetime map updates with them.
Hope that's helped everybody

There is NO (current) way to manipulate/cracking/patch/copy/clone or otherwise modify these v10 navcores which are on all the latest devices and run through MyTomTom rather than TTHome so PLEASE don't ask.
If/as/when this is possible there's a very good chance you'll read about it first on this forum, but for now, don't hold your breath.
From lemonfish:-
The reason why all of the new TomToms since September 2010 (such as the GO1000 range and all VIA models) do not show up as a drive on the computer is because they are using the Linux based file systems instead of FAT/FAT32.
This wasn't a choice by TomTom to make it harder for us to copy or p atch their devices. This was done because Microsoft successfully sued TomTom for using the Microsoft FAT and FAT32 file systems on a Linux platform, which Microsoft claimed was an infringement.
Therefore TomTom were forced to use another file system other than a Windows based one. TomToms run on Linux anyway, so the choice to use Linux file systems do make the devices run faster than ever before, as their file systems are generally more reliable and capable than the older FAT/FAT32. This is a positive for customers, but it's a negative for us who want to update our new TomToms by sharing files with each other, as we do on here and other forums.
The only way to currently update the new TomToms is to use their program called "MyTomTom," although you have to pay for updating most things like new maps and safety cameras.
So far, nobody has been successful in trying to "patching" this new system, or rather make it possible for us to update the new TomToms using Windows Explorer. One must wonder though... how hard can it really be??
