A good friend of mine has a TM5402 HD box
but last few days he cant make it boot up anymore
just random numbers and i think letters appear on front LCD display
but it just wont boot up for him
So its obvious there is no access to main menu to Re-patch it again
is there anything at all i can try tommorrow as he is gonna bring it to me to try a fix it for him tommorrow morning ???

is there some way i can force update via 9 PIN Serial cable ??
or is there something else i can try to get a patch loaded on it ?
any help of course will be appreciated .
thank you in advance .

Sounds like a blown cap on the power board. I had something similar when I had a Technomate. I would check the board for any ill looking caps. Easily replaced (when I did mine it was my first electronic project and I was fresh from the you tube course of soldering ;)

Assume you've tried switching power off and on again at the back toggle switch Barney? Suggest waiting 40 secs with it off before switching on again!
Mine sometimes jams up a bit like you describe, but without being there its difficult mate!
