What is your opinion of the new 2.09 image upgrade.

openpli 4.0 for me these days but I'm in the dreaded fringe area of no Astra 2F/2E UK spot beam. It's the only image that allows my solo2 to clear not only the picture but also the sound on the HD channels at 27.5W.

Tried BH 2.0.9 last night and seemed just fine. Not a lot different from the previous 2.0.8.1 if you ask me but didn't manage to get ondemand plugin working which was OK with the latter even though I haven't got an UK ip address ....

I changed from vix to BH a year ago and although my BH isnt the latest one it does what I want it to do , but on the duo it takes some sorting out using swap files and plugins etc to keep the ram use down to a reasonable level (one reason I dont change images is because I would have to setup all these extras again, but that has nothing to do with the question asked)

never tried openpli or blackpole or the others

Too early for me to comment properly on BH 2.09, but so far, I have not seen any difference from 2.08.

OpenVix here because it works fine and is almost identical to the one on my digicorder.Including EPG list.

Just noticed that on the new BH 2.09 with a vuduo+ the ability to go through the list of channels on a satellite by selecting a letter on the remote has vanished.

I assume this is a bug?

I only started using BH from the previous version and have not used it as much as I normally would due to she who must be obeyed making me do a lot of DIY around the house, so I didn't notice.

OpenPli is my choice

which image you use

ian

Open Pli 4.0 Buddy.

it knocks spots off BH and more importantly, everything works and remains working, unlike BH which has a tendency for things to just stop working of their own accord.
also very importantly for me theres no re flashing every 6 weeks or so either,as all updates are online, again unlike BH.

it takes time to personalize an image and get it running exactly how you like it,and just when you think youve achieved this, what happens ? Bh release yet another flaming update that cannot be updated online, thats what !

its not bloated like BH either so its very, very fast too.also it uses the swap file correctly which BH has never done,so as a consequence im running nearly 50 plugins (all on my HDD) without any slow downs of the image, using a 512mg swap, all on a gen 1 box,so cant be bad.

can you BH users answer me a question ?

How the hell do you live with the restrictions on the PVR button ? in the fact that it only allows you access to your latest recordings.
this drove me mad with BH !
from this button you should have the freedom to navigate your entire HDD and have the ability to set the directory that it opens up in as default.
mine is set to my downloaded movies,so i press the PVR then select my film to play.if i wish to play a recording, there is a folder within this directory called recordings which contains them, the same applies to tv shows too.

being restricted to just the recordings you have made from your tv is just shear madness, and is really not something i can live with ! and having to open up the mediaplayer plugin to access your downloaded movies, then add your movies to filelist, then also having to switch to filelist to play them is pathetic !

i know you can add the EMC plugin to overcome these restrictions, but why should you have to use a 3rd party plugin to fix the usage of the image ? as this basic feature should be standard to begin with.

to me though the main benefit of Pli over BH is that of choice.the image starts off small and light, with little loaded on it,this means that you are not forced to have things you dont want and will never use,and so have to turn them off,in a speedup menu, just to stop the image slowing down to a crawl and filling up your flash space.with Pli you just add and use what you want, not what someone else thinks you want and insists you need.

then theres the fact that they choose to restrict the skins you can use, unless you yourself hack the skin selector within the image(which is the very first thing i did when i used it lol)as i completely refuse to be told what skin i can and cant use in MY image version !
and finally theres the forum itself, mention a cam and your banned, moan in any way about their image not working correctly, and your banned,in fact fart the wrong way and your banned, they simply just do my head in.

i know that both Sonic and Cokeaddict are going to jump on me for my comments, but they are simply the way i feel about BH and all are very true and really do need addressing by the image writers. but i bet neither of you will copy and paste this and let Meo see it ? lol

@Ian,

How do you make a swap file when using openpli 4?

BH has the option to make one for you, but I can't recall ever seeing that option in an openpli image.

ian

it has to be done via telnet buddy.

but i think you should start a new thread if you wish to know how to do it as it will send this one totally off topic otherwise.

Your Spot on Ian,
that's exactly why i use this Image over other team images
it takes a bit more effort to setup but once done it suits my needs and not those of everyone else

mmm, i may have look at open pli (be rude not too), the only thing about adding stuff that u need is - how do you know you need it lol? i went with ViX and all i had to do was add the cam, would i get away with just that or do i need more? perhaps for a noob its better to leave well enough alone lol

you start by learning the basics and doing them, to get up and running

then you check what is available like plugins etc by reading the vu forums and plugins forum , decide if you want or can use any of them yourself

so if you decided you needed an epg for 7 days, you may decide to look at crossepg, then you may add cooltv to it to give a better guide

then you may decide you wish to stream so you look at ondemand services like iplayer , itv player etc

then you may decide to look at other streaming services like 1channel, icefilms , tsmedia and any others you feel you want which is an improvement over just catch up tv services , in other words IPTV (utilising the ethernet and internet)

then its a case of looking at media players , weather , news , y*ut*be and maybe other plugins you feel you need to expand your horizons
