Hi,

Just received and set up (in its simplest form) my Duo box thanks to many people on this forum.

I've read a bit on the forum about 'Picons', what exactly are picons, I'm guessing having read the forums they are small pictures the represent any said channel? Once installed correctly I assume they sit against the relevant channel within the EPG?

Am I on the right track?

Thanks.

Thats correct most store them on a USB stick and some on internal hard drive a big no-no is dont store them on the internal flash

Thanks, the pre installed EPG is working well albeit with no Picons. I've downloaded a file with the Sky picons contained within from this site. Whats the process for installing and is there any risk of messing up the functionality of the EPG ?

Thanks

use a usb stick in the back of your duo, use the duo menus to mount and to format this permanent stick

unpack the picons on your pc or laptop and ensure they are in a folder called picon

now ftp the picon folder over to the usb drive root directory

the duo image will "see" the picons and display them in the onscreen info banner on the bottom left and also in the epg menus on the left

Thanks echelon.

I used the FTP software successfully to move the cfg. file earlier however, out of curiosity could I cut and paste the Picons from my PC onto the USB stick and then insert the stick in the Duo. Just interested to understand if FTP is essential or just handy??

Thanks again.

Yes you can buddy..Format your usb to fat32 on your pc..then create a folder called picon as echelon said and then put your picons in that folder..Plug into box and mount as media/usb (Dont format obviously) Hope this helps..Or you can do it as Echelon said..

Great.....is there a short cut to access the mount option from the remote control ? I assume the mount as media/USB option only becomes available when you insert the stick in the Duo ?? Just had a quick look and it only showed the HDD (stick wasn't plugged in).

as I mentioned in other threads, how you do things on the duo varies according to the image on the box , blackhole , openpli , vix etc

you may find they have changed the menu options within the same family of images , so for instance what was true in BH 2.03 may not be in BH 2.09 , so usually impossible to answer the question unless a responder is running the same image as yourself

so menus vary greatly , which also means if you are on vix and I am on BH then nothing I say will be correct except the methodology

as for the stick, I would have said NO, because I thought it may be a different partition and format and mount , but no harm in trying copy and paste on a pc and then put in the switched off duo, boot up and then try mounting it when you have found the mount menu

I did mine in the duo, and I use ftp to transfer the picon folder over to the mounted usb, hence I will tell you to do what I did because it worked for me, but mine is on something like BH 2.05 (or 2.06)

so I thought it may use linux formatting like ext3 and NOT fat32 , and your pc wont recognise a linux formatted stick

Thanks guys, got it all working now. If you have missing icons for certain channels is there a method to resolve ?

Thanks.

find them online , download , ftp to into the picons folder

start by looking at the 28 east changes thread on here as they tend to get put in there , I got some yesterday from there , usually posted by doods

Great, is it literally just a PNG file?? How clever is that ........ how does it associate the picture with the channel ???

yes

no idea , must be in the naming of the png or something buried in the me ta file or whatever

The Picon name must match the the service name in the user Bouquet or the picon must be named with the service reference number. Can be found on VU by looking in stream information.

I've loaded the Picon's onto the USB stick and inserted the stick into the Duo. 99% of the picons are showing in the EPG as you would expect however, some are missing. I've always assumed that these particular images where missing from the folder however, on further investigation many of them aren't. So for example BBC1 picon is in the folder and viewable on my PC however, does not show in the EPG.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?

Many thanks.

chances are its moved and needs a new one, maybe the ones you are looking at are old ones with a different ID ?

as these channels move or change then the picons need updating to the new ident, so you will find they are updated in the picons section and the transponder changes for 28e thread regularly has the new picons

so I think you are missing the ones with the correct ident , meaning the ones you are looking at are out of date and have the incorrect ident

this is especially true since the recent transponder migrations from the old sats to the replacements at 28e

your previous thread last month gave you all this info too

By The Way...All the latest up to date picons are on the bottom post of this page**** https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?164250-new-picons-for-28e-various&highlight=picons

These are X-Picons which are much better than normal...

Echelon is correct though in everything said...

Echelon/dOOds,

Many thanks Picons look fantastic !

Where on the forum can I access the most up to date Picon as and when they are updated ? If I look under Vu Dui/Picons it appears that the newest Picon are 2/3/12. Is there a link I'm missing within the forum that takes you to the Mediafire site that I've just used ??

Thanks again.

if and when picons are posted here you look in the picons forums

vu
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?518-Picons

dreambox
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?541-Picons

mediafire is just an upload centre , so you only look there if a download link has been posted like it was in this particular case

sometimes new 28.2e picons are posted in the transponder changes thread here
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?162175-Sky-UK-28-2-East-Latest-Changes

so its a case of looking round the various forums here for the files you need, not to get tunnel vision when looking either as these E2 boxes can take files that are posted in various forums here

like E2 channel lists from here for example
