Hi everyone,
I've owned DM500's for a number of years now but have been tempted by the low price of both of these boxes, can anyone advise me which is the easiest to work with ?:07:
Thanks in advance.

Both discontinued models.
Waste of time leave well alone.

Thanks for the advice,
I only use my DM500 and Blackbox (clones) for sky channels on a fixed dish and they've served me well over the last 8 years or so, but they're playing up these days, so I'm only looking for a budget, basic box to do the same.
I'm no genius on the tech side of things, so just want something along the same lines as the ones I have, just use an rs232 connection to load the image and flash FXP to load the line.
The Spiderbox 6000 HD looks a bit high tech for me, are there any advantages in my getting one ?
Thanks again.

Its easiest stb to use and load using usb.
DM500 is far more complicated.

as above, a linux box is much more work and needs much more knowledge than the simple to use spiderboxes

the linux boxes and tm5402 are generally a lot more money than boxes like the budget spiderbox too

the spiderbox tends to use usb sticks or online options for updating so little or no use of an rs232 cable unless it was for using the repair firmware. the firmware updates, channel list updates , softcam updates , backups etc are all done by usb stick and it tends to be the simplest method possible

most modern boxes dont use the rs232 option as they tend to use usb sticks or ethernet ftp options

I do not believe you will find a simpler box than the spiderbox 6000 and you did mention the old SD 5000 which is no longer made I believe , they only make and sell the 6000 HD now which is either simpler or the same know how required as the older 5000

a dm500s SD is now "old hat" too although may still be of use to non-HD viewers, but the modern equivalent would be the vu solo or similar which is more setting up work than the bespoke spiderbox

but its your choice , we can only advise you

I am sure that you will not regret your decision to try the Spiderbox 6000HD, if fact in a couple of weeks time you will probably be singing it's praises, that is my opinion and I am sure it will be the same as hundreds if not thousands of spiderbox 6000 users, so good luck with your new receiver.

I certainly don't regret my decision to stick with TM - first the TM6900HD Super (now superceded by the TM6902) and then the TM5402HD's various, but as stated above its all down to personal preference at the end of the day, so you pays ur money....!!!
