My vu duo receiver which has to be 3/4 years old has died on me

When switching on from rear all I get is sound of HDD starting up & red dot in top left hand corner of front display

Any ideas what might be wrong & any guesses as to whether its worth fixing & possible costs involved ?

Regards

See the attached image mate.

Parts required: RUBYCON - 16ML220MEFC8X7.5 - CAPACITOR, 220UF, 16V

The easiest way to replace it is to snip the top of the legs from the old CAP and solder the legs of the new CAP to the old legs of the old CAP.

HTH.

I did the above for a forum member on here some time ago, worked perfectly again afterwards and is a fairly simple job doing it the way mentioned above as you do not have to remove the motherboard

he bought the parts, I fitted it for free, job done , simples

sometimes its the Cap mentioned but also the Regulators can go as well C801,805,806 , and also C848 causes tuner issues too

You could check for a local television, DVD, repair shop, in the area, most should have circuit board testers.
Have you tried a different HDMI cable, and port, or even different television, just on the off chance that the problem is with your television, and not the VU+?
At least a local repair shop should be able to tell you what part is damaged and needs replacing.
Can you claim for any power surge repairs on your house insurance?
