probably a psu or motherboard fault, especially if it does it with no cables or leads plugged in except the power lead

apart from no built in RF modulator then you may as well cut your losses and buy a 6000

I've had two spiderbox 9000's, and both gave out after 3years, the culprit was the power supply, it drops off the pace and starts gliching and slows up a lot, I've got all the capacitors to fix the prob but I'm now using a 6000 so I probably wont bother fixing the 9k power supply, mind you the 6000 is not manufactured any more but the power supply is a bog standard 12v supply which costs £5 anywhere, the 6k is a great bit of kit.

Hi Guys

Wow this takes me back @Tony, you are quite correct when rebooting occurs it is the PSU caps that dry out over time. Like with the humax 5400,5300 and Nagra 5700 it is also important to use 105 degrees celsius replacements. I have replaced my spider 5,7 and 9 k psu components twice now but they still work ok.

The spider 6k is a great piece of kit without doubt however only the name is shared not the designers. I now mainly use the Amiko stb's which are very cheap and excellent. Good to catch up with the old days mind you the main sellers were a little self opinionated and if we upset them they banned us lol.

Kindest Regards

With reference to the life of a receiver, if kept on standby at all times you are talking of 168 hours in one week giving a total of 2,016 hours in one year. The Spider 9000 HD is known to get hot so the components will need to be replaced earlier than by switching off after use each day. Example, if you turn on at 1700 hours and watch till 2300 in one week your receiver is only powered up for 42 hours so in one year it works out at a total of 504 hours powered up, components will obviously last much longer. I have had my 9000 since 2011 and I power up each evening as per the example. During the summer months I have noticed gliching occure especially on hot evenings so I raise the box higher to allow more air flow around the receiver this has work well over the years.
When I switch on in the evening and channel 0037 shows in the receivers window i count my blessings that all is well ( I always switching box off to standby on this channel then switch power off at the back) one day in the near future i could encounter the dreaded F100.
Over the past couple of years I have followed the good reviews with regard to the 6000 but I never took the plunge certainly now looking forward to the new receiver when it comes, just hope my blessing will hold out till then.

I had the same problem with my 9000 HD Spider it would keep crashing and it must have been because it was overheating because I bought a lap top cooler for £5 and sat the decoder on it touch wood I never had the problem again. The best £5 I ever spent that was 3 years ago.

Your software might be corrupted you could try a factory reset, certainly worth a try. A couple of years back there was a certain channel in my list that would course my 9000 to reboot so I deleted it. After a factory reset a clean scan might sort out the problem. Had this problem with my television once it kept turning off and then coming on again, so I did a factory reset and new scan, also turned off auto update set it manual. Never had a problem with it since.

You have asked virtually the same question here in post#12, and no one has yet replied to the query, maybe you should try the info given in post#14, and see what happens with your receiver, then post again with the results.

I've been having this problem for a couple of months. I put a computer fan unit under the receiver and it hasn't rebooted once since then (over a week now)
