if i press the record button an record what I am watching it's fine, but if I set the timer the box turns on changes channel and record's for the set time but all it record's is a black screen
am new to this and any help would be much appreciated
Thanks lee

does it do this even on an fta channels like bbc1 ?

is it a stick or hdd you are using ?

what size ?

did you format the usb device using the spiderbox prior to trying to record ?

Not tried it on fta channels
its a 1tb hard drive
no ive not formated it, just plugged it in,

I suspect it needs formatting to work correctly , especially if its not formatted the way the spiderbox requires (it could be formatted in NTFS and not fat32 or whatever)

I would also try testing this procedure using a 32 gig or less usb stick formatted by the box, on an FTA channel first, then if ok on a scrambled channel (prferably not a HD channel)

and you should always try an FTA channel before querying this problem as it may just be an issue with scrambled channels which may not be a box problem

Hi echelon
just tried it on fta bbc1 and it has recorded perfect ?

in that case, try it on BBC1HD

if thats ok , then maybe its a problem with the scrambled channel you tried it on ?

or its dependent on if that 1tb is in ntfs or fat32 formatted mode ?

ideally , try a 32 gig fat32 formatted stick ( £8 from eb*yer)

and try the scrambled free to view channels like sony tv , sony movies and motors tv (if you have a sea lion feeder)

How do you tell what its formated to?
I'm not technically inclined 😩

do sony tv and sony movies open when you select them ? or are they black screen anyway ?

do you have a sea lion on your box ? if yes, do those scrambled channels open or not ?

plug your hdd into your pc and use windows explorer and properties to check the formatting

ideally, use a mem stick and format it on the spiderbox from the spider menu whilst testing these recordings etc

Yes they open
what's a sea lion?

its what you placed in your box in the network settings for cccam (your internet feed)

suggest you do as I asked and check it using a usb stick of 32 gig or less and formatted on the box itself

make sure any test channels open to watch, then try recordings , especially on bbc1 or itv (fta channels)

also, what is the date of the patch in SYSTEM INFO ?

I use a wd 1tb usb drive...and it records and playback perfectly...on anything i wish to record

to format your drive on spiderbox...go to menu...multimedia...my recordings...of course this will be empty if new drive

once my recordings has been selected...you will see green button at bottom with usb device next to it
now click that...you will now see...usb device =usb...slot = 1...partition = 1
under that format...click format...your drive when done ...will now be formatted correctly to suit your spider box

once done...go back to multimedia...and select recorder settings...has default spider records for 15 minutes
just press right on your remote..and it will increase it by 15 miniutes each press
i set it for 2 hours...only change when a certain film requires more...( some films last longer )

as for timer recording...that adjusts itself...

if you want to format your drive through your pc...i have put in freeware a very good fat32 formatter

hope some of this helps

There are problems recording scrambled channels from that position (28.2E) Wheter its to do with the box software or the way they are being broadcast I have no idea, fact is that majority of $ channels are recording ok but cannot be played back (its being played all garbled up, looking near enough like when you are watching a channel from a very week transpoder and it starts to break up )But then other channels like the SONY Movies records and plays back ok so it could be something to do with the way they are being broadcast that makes some ok and some impossible to record on an unofficial box).

just make sure your patch on the box is dated july 24 2014 too (system info)

if it is, you are up to date

Hi I am having exactly the same problem with my spiderbox hd 6000 it's fine when recording the program you are watching but fails to record from the timer . Sometimes you get it clearing after some time other times the whole recording is blank. My setup is 28.2 fixed and a 320gb sata drive formatted to fat 32 with the latest patch installed on the box. I have tried my "sea-lion" in my old libertview f5s so I know it works. I have factory reset the spiderbox a number of times and re installed the patch, tried a different hard drive and a 32gig flash drive but nothing works.I have set my network from auto to manual no change there. I even tried starting the timer early in the hope it might clear given the extra time but still hit and miss. If anyone can suggest another procedure it would be most appreciated as I am no expert but I'm willing to try anything that you guys think may work.Thanks.

One other thought. I have suffered unreliability with stbs where the hard drives rely on power from the stb. Hard drives with independent power supply have behaved well.
