Hi everyone

Ive got a 6000hd with the latest firmware, less than 5000 channels and hard wired to the router.

Over the last 10 months I've had no problems at all. Recently I've noticed that the channels are ok one minute then scramble. I have to reboot the box, and then they are ok for a while until it does it again. It can do this every 10 minutes or after a couple of hours. Its not regular, although it happens every night.

I've replaced the home plugs and checked with other wifi and hard wired devices, all of which stay connected through the day.

When I go into network settings I notice that their address is gone, and then appears after a second or so. I still need to reboot.

Ive always updated firmware as soon as it comes out.

Any ideas??

Stumpy

I would say it`s an issue with your server rather than a box problem - drop them a mail,

you could try another network cable just to rule it out (i had that particular problem)

try setting the ip address to a fixed ip address and in the router admin panel reserve the mac address to that fixed ip address

then see how it goes

so if your router is 192.168.0.1 , set the box to something like 192.168.0.50

also set the pubic dns to googles server , 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Just a quick update.

I changed the IP address from automatic to manual and gave it a static one. Hasn't dropped out since!

Thanks for the help guys.

I'll have to try that because mine has been dropping out badly recently, thanks.

its been standard practice on spiderboxes for 5 years or more, especially if netgear routers are involved

also a good practice with linux boxes too

I always leave DHCP for tablets, phones , laptops and other wireless devices , fixing all my non-wifi items including my smart tv too

Stumpyj, i have a similar problem of late

Did you change the IP address form automatic to manual on the spiderbox by selecting

Menu-multimedia-network settings-WiFi IP and change from auto to manual ?

Not sure how to find my own manual settings are they on the router?

yes is the simple answer

How would we define "dropouts" as I have with my 9000 hd sudden picture freezing which is followed by black screen with "Scrambled Channel" message on it or is a dropout something different.

that could qualify, although the cause could be different

its dropping out from the router (and therefore the net) that we are discussing here , so rather than letting the router assign ip addresses (the lazy persons way so they dont have to understand what is going on) - its use the smart way like an IT department would of fixing the ip address for each piece of equipment on the network

you start by looking at the router main ip address (listed in your box in networking - the host) - that ip is fixed for the router

there are 254 in total , minus the one used by the router, leaving 253 for your use

if your router is 192.168.0.1 , then you have from 2 to 254 free for your own use, so maybe start at 51 or 101 and go upwards , allocating each device its own number , leaving the first 50 or 100 for tablets , smartphones , laptops etc

I appear to have deliberate loss of line on one site when dling. Started
end of 2014, prior to that no problems & a 100% connection.

I have a free gift on a different STB, that sometimes has server problems though am not on UK channels. Just checked to see if still working as not used for a couple of weeks.

Since the site blocking I suspect some ISPs may search & block some
content with the new laws. It will also suit them to save bandwidth
now there is so much legit streaming.

Worth looking at the Router log to see if the line has dropped out,
mine usually auto reconnects without a reboot which suggests I've
just had the line " knocked"

Thanks echelon for your explanation, and I asked because it occured to me that I could possibly improve the stability of my reception by changing as you suggested to manual IP from automatic selection, but it appears the type of program interuptions I am experiencing are not quite the same, and maybe being caused by another situation.

There's probably no harm to be cused by trying the modified IP setting in my case and it will either help or not which remains to be seen.

Regards mahler.

correct, try it on fixed, if it doesnt solve your problem then its something else , probably internet or s*rver related , unless its somebody uploading to the net from your house at the same time , uploading hogs the system and slows down the reception speed

Just to confirm, drop out for me was the spiderbox seeming to lose internet connection when all other devices were connected ok.

In my house the internet is coming in at 24 mbps with 5 phones. iPads, tablets, laptops , and tvs all fighting for connection.

Since allocating a fixed IP address in network settings (in the spiderbox), its been 100% stable.

Thanks for the help guys

Im trying to change my ip to manual instead of auto, but having issues. Once in manual, I have changed the last 3 numbers (as per echelon)of ip add to 051. What happens to the netmask, gateway & dns numbers. I used the same numbers from the auto setting but all I get is setting fail2 when I try to connect. Any advice appreciated.

netmask stays the same no matter which router is used and same on auto or on manual

255.255.255.000

gateway stays the same and is the ip of your actual router itself

so on my netgear its 192.168.000.001 (or 192.168.0.1) , other routers may have different numbers in the latter 2

examples

192.168.0.1

192.168.1.1

192.168.2.1

192.168.0.254 (or 192.168.000.254)

192.168.1.254

dns is either your ISP dns servers or use google dns servers

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Thanks Echelon, but still no joy, wont connect on manual still says setting fail2. Heres my settings

ip 192 168 001 051
netmask 255 255.255 000
gateway 192 168 001 001

googled talktalk dns tried primary & secondary 062 024 (134 001) or 243 002
tried 008 008 008 008 & 008 008 004 004.

Any further ideas what Im doing wrong ? Thanks.
