Can anybody tell me if I was to purchase a 3D tv, is the spiderbox 6000 HD capable of transmitting 3D channels or do I need a completely new setup.

Yes is does, have a look on FlySat or King*Of*Sat for 3d channels available.
Don't think there are many yet.
