As the title states, my spiderbox bricked, with the red stand by light on the front blinking continuously. I've got the null modem cable and instructions on how to fix it, but I can't find the original firmware of the box to download anywhere to hard reset it. Can anyone point me in the direction of it? Thanks

you incorrectly posted this thread in the firmware section , so I have moved it
the restore firmware is in the spiderbox TOOLS section near where you posted this thread, so please look again
thank you

Have you followed ALL of the instructions given with the recovery file which can be found here:

yep, all of them to the letter. get as far as choosing the com port and the settings, then plug the stb in and begin pressing space and nothing happens.

are you using a desktop (or tower pc) with proper com ports on the rear and running xp ?
or are you running some other os and/or a usb adapter to give you a com port ?
ideally , use the description in the top line - desktop (or tower) pc tunning xp pro
switch the mains power on to the spiderbox after setting up the loader (so a cold boot)
so the spiderbox is totally switched off at the power socket until the last possible moment

no i'm using windows 7 with a usb - com port because i don't have an old enough machine to hand. Also using a male to female adapter in the back of the spiderbox, currently ordering a straight female to usb cable off **** now to eliminate the adapter, but other than that I cannot do much more about the cable. The drivers installed fine for the null modem cable and windows is picking it up too. I was doing the cold boot with the box after settings up the loader but it made no difference.

in my opinion that is why its failing, because you are not getting the basics right
you say win7 , but you dont mention the version (half a story)
if we assume it will work in win 7 , you need win 7 pro or win 7 ultimate
you are probably using win 7 basic or win 7 home premium (wont work with these)
I have always found those usb to com port adapters wont work either (I have several which never worked doing this trick so are in a drawer gathering dust) , plus if they did you use one as well as a null modem cable, plus the drivers need installing
but in my own personal experience , they dont work - period
what I told you to use works, the rest are fudges and tend NOT TO WORK
tells you this in many other threads on here too
like these
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?170340-SPIDERBOX-stuck-on-F-100
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?158049-Stuck-on-F100

now you asked for my help by pm , which I refused as it should be on this thread , which I told you in my reply
so I will be perfectly blunt , but crystal clear, like I was in those other threads above
here goes
not interested in what you have access to, only interested in getting the job done
yes I have done this with many boxes and routers, many times
what with :-
an old desktop pc with rear mounted built in FIFO com ports running xp pro
an old tower pc with rear mounted built in FIFO com ports running xp pro
an old HP/COMPAQ laptop pc with side mounted built in FIFO com ports running xp pro
a null modem cable (both bought and also home made ones - where they have pins 2 and 3 reversed and 7 and 8 reversed too)
null modem cable is wired as below
pin 1 to pin 1
pin 2 to pin 3
pin 3 to pin 2
pin 7 to pin 8
pin 8 to pin 7
that is all you need , one xp pc with built in FIFO com ports (ideally xp pro)
and one null modem cable
anything else is p******* in the wind
so no win 7 , no 9 pin female to male adapters , no usb to 9 pin adapters, no windows drivers , no win 7 , no vista
now I hope that is crystal clear to you
I could have linked another dozen or more discussions on here , going back 9 years to the tm1500 days
its the same advice, never changes , always the same
and believe me , my way works , period , no question , - so stop fudging it and do as I say and it will work like a dream
capiche ?
hope you get it sorted, but I doubt this will happen with the equipment and windows you listed - sorry to say
I cannot make it any clearer to you or to anyone else
good luck

I would also advise you to read this thread down a bit
https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?169218-On-and-Standby-Loop
there are a few helpful hints in there on how to get Hyperterminal to start.
Best bet i reckon is to get an old laptop running XP and a com port and to use a proper null-modem cable.
I eventually got it all to work on my win7 PC only after a long battle.
BTW do you know what caused it in the first place? You weren't trying to delete satellites/channels in the list by any chance?

It happened as far as I'm aware while my "line" or "sub" was being renewed. I can't really be any more specific, sorry. Thanks for the thread link I'll give that read now :)

I have win7 and you need a s/w driver for the usb to com lead to work, mine wouldn't work till I loaded it either, I'll track it down and come back.
---------------------------------
Most USB to Com socket convertors are HL-340 or similar, get the driver off the site below, read the thank you threads after the driver and you'll see every one gets it to work.

hey thanks for the reply, i'd been told about that driver previously and i don't know if i'm doing something wrong, but i download the installer, it starts, i click install, then a split second later it comes up and says "driver install failure" and i'm given no options. Have I missed something? Thanks again

@ lauramagraham
Hi
You really need to take the advice given in post #8 by Echelon or you won't get there. Loading drivers will only clash with available Com ports and make things worse. Also your mentioned 'Straight through 9pin cable' if stated correctly is not a Modem cable, as the Null Modem cable is crossed internally (also mentioned in post #8).

poor wording on my part, i only meant straight as in opposed to the usb/com cable i was using before. i have done what post #8 said on an xp computer with a com port and am now getting a bunch of symbols when i try to connect through hyperterminal. as i stated before i'm currently working through suggested fixes for this, present problem. thanks for your reply

If you`re getting a bunch of symbols that`s a good sign - try pushing down on the connector where it enters the box and at the same time in-out with the box power connector (thats how mine started)

Hi I have restored Spiderbox 6000 a number of times using a Windows XP laptop using the Hyper Terminal program. You need a null modem cable with correct pins to connect laptop to the box. You will need the .stp file to download to the box
The box will restore to its original state. Then you ugrade with the IKS/Mscam patch using a USB to bring it up to date. The good thing is that you wont lose your IKS/Mscam account number.. Regards
