Advice needed on how to deal with this please.

My Triax 1.1 has been in the same position for 15 years.
Just under 2 years ago, new neighbours moved in and unknown to me planted a tree.

That tree is now visible and growing at a fast speed.
It is already affecting my dish and if allowed to continue growing it will cause me a lot of problems as there is no easy option for me to relocate the dish.

I am going to approach the female who seems friendly when I see her. The husband is a grumpy git who ignores everybody.

Any advice please?

Our previous neighbours who lived there for well over 35 years were sympathetic to us and us to them.

Our new neighbour couldn't have chosen a worst position to place a tree.

Try and be nice, explain the problem, to them, and maybe offer to pay, to have the tree pruned, each year, or to do it yourself. Then try to get them interested in getting a motorized satellite system:302:

I wouldn't. If somebody bubbles you, you can be done for criminal damage.

We have a neighbour who thinks that holiday time gives them the green light to hop over and hack lumps off any shrub or tree they don't like the look of. It has caused some serious grief, I can tell you.

I just approached my neighbours about the tree. I have been dreading it as I was convinced that there would be bad feelings as the male comes across as being grumpy and not wanting to interact with anybody.

They were both there and they were both as nice as pie about it.
They will cut it back in a couple of weeks when the risk of frost has dropped.

The male said more during the conversation than he had for the 2 years they have been living there, and he was very friendly. Perhaps he had a personality transplant??? :)

Always the best way rather than poisoning and killing them. Good result.

I would never have done anything that was anti social.

If they had refused to co-operate, then I would have got a second motorised dish and place it down the other end of the garden so I could still have access to what I had and probably a few more satellites.

I did offer to pay for another tree if pruning it caused it harm but they declined.

in the old days i would have ringed it and fed it 2 gallons of diesel but thankfully those days are gone now maybe a smile and a box of chocalates will hopefully do the trick :)

i had the same problem with a neighbours tree,,,,when i mentioned it to him,,,,,,he was more than happy for me to trim it back,,,,,,,,which i did ......no problems what so ever,,,,,,,,he is looking to sell up and move back to his home town,,,,,,so on the day he moves the tree will be raised to the ground...............before the new occupants move in......lol

Ahh, talking to the neighbours and playing nice it can be pain in the back. You should have cut it down while they were at work. :D Later when they ask you about the tree, you just go, tree? what tree?:respect-048:

You could have fed the tree roots with salt - Ie got a salt and water mixture and kept 'watering' the roots with it. I do this for grass that sometimes tries to grow in my front driveway - it doesn't take long to kill weeds/grass/or anything else growing for that matter.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, when a neighbours tree was blocking 30w for me, ( check my home page picture of me dish, the tree was massive)...they knew I had an interest in the satellite scene ..... And they said..... Go ahead and trim it...... Little did they know my way of trimming was like taking every branch off it I could see, they did eventually say after seeing just the trunk left..... You might as well chop it down..... THE BEST WAY IN MY EXPERIANCE .....is to be nice and ask......... Ps...... I now have new neighbours....AND NO TREE..

The tree has now been heavily pruned so I am happy again.

I gave their children some Easter eggs as a small gesture.
