hi

I have an MX2 and currently running droid tv 2014 (may) firmware on it so its nearly a year old and out of date

I know there is a later version MX2 NG, firmware 1.1.9, may 2014 as a family member bought a new one with it on

It also seems to have a newer customised KODI on it too

cant see what I need at tvaddons.ag or androidgadget.co.uk

was wondering if anyone has the latest firmware and KODI on their MX2 boxes and where to download it from ?

or any other recommendations for this MX2 box ? especially on the KODI side (or the firmware) , apart from what I am reading in the KODI threads and downloads on here ?

thank you

nb

this thread is about updating half a dozen existing and paid for boxes in my family, its not about what to buy next

by all means add your thoughts in the other new box thread in this forum ( I split this thread earlier)

my thread is about updating an existing MX2 and as OP I do not want this thread thrown off-track by discussions on replacement boxes sometime in the future so please do not discuss them in this thread

this thread is about maintaining existing MX2 boxes with no purchases at all, just downloads of new firmwares and new KODI installations for the existing paid for boxes of which there are more than half a dozen in my family and with friends

thanks again

This any good? "https://wiki.matricom.net/i/MX2_Firmware"

i have 4 mx boxes in the house all clones,,,,,one of which came fully loaded with "crap" ,,,,,,i flashed it with the matricom 1.2 firmware which is a stable version with all later versions being beta....the improvement in the box performance was greatly improved,,it seems alot of the ******* sellers modify the firmware with there own setup files and addons which no amount of factory resetting will get rid of.so the only option was to do a complete reflash.

the reflash didnt work the first time leaving me with a non responsive box which i thought was finished.i then tried to flash openelec which failed, i then loaded the 3 matricom files back onto the sd card and to my suprise it loaded without any issues and the box now runs great,,,the only side affects being that the power light is now red when the box is on and blue when in standby....also i have lost the ability to set my ip to static which is not an issue......the moral of the story is dont buy a fully loaded box......get the basic and play about with it..

my dad now uses kodi on his mx box to connect to my nas over ftp "as webdav wasnt an option on the nas" ,,,he loves it ,,i update it with do***entaries and wildlife show,s for him to watch and the thubmnails are all present making it a pleasure to watch.....a good gui means a whole lot.

nbc sports live xtra addon is a good option for the footie,,,,as it shows all the prem ship games,,but you will need an america ip address using a vpn.

ok , thanks

so you are using the matricom v1.2 firmware and not say 1.16 or 1.19 ? (on the clones) , or is 1.2 actually 1.20 and later ?

I can see 1.2 on here _https://wiki.matricom.net/i/MX2_Firmware so now downloaded it

can I also assume you are using the KODI gotham 13.2 file you posted ? or the kodi 14.0 HELIX file that was posted ? on them ? or a newer one ?

I cannot get this one off the embedded xbmc 12.4 at the moment

matricom 1.2 was the last stable version,,,,the recent versions are all beta and dont include the google apps files,, matricom 1.2 works fine for me on the clone mx ,,,im using the latest stable version of kodi version 14.1,,,,,,for flashing you will need the ,,,,,,1.2 firmware zip file along with the recovery image and aml script. placed on the root of your sd card.

i havent tried any of the beta versions as 1.2 is fine for me at the minute,,,,if you flash the 1.2 version you can update to any of the beta versions using the built in over the air updater.

thanks, I have installed the 1.2 matricom firmware and kodi 14.1 so just need to see how I get on and maybe customise it

I also installed TVMC, plus I found the matricom already had gotham 13.2 installed too, all accessed through separate icons

thanks for the info so far

just needs the repositories doing now so I assume I need Phoenix and Genesis and Vidics etc in it now as its got none of the usual programs and video addons etc ?

thanks m8

I knew about fusion so added that into the box and used the fusion config installer , so getting there

never heard of the second one so thanks for that, will look into it

missing a few like VIDICS from fusion or wherever so thats something else I need to look into as well, maybe a few others too

good info though as it all helps

also noticed I dont have an ALL APPS box in the boot menu (gbox launcher) and I have 6 large icons and after adding some shortcuts at the bottom its full at 10 small icon boxes, so cant add any more at all

found its there if I keep pressing right arrow on the main screen though

Hi ech,
have a look at the Xunity Talk Repositry, I have it installed on my mx, rasp pi and Kodi for enigma 2 on vu solo 2, definately worth having.

If you need the link to install on your box just shout.

thanks for all the feedback

after battling with my box and different images I have finally got it rooted and installed as follows

matricom 1.22 beta update with TVMC gotham 13.2 and KODI 14.1 (no frodo)

do a clean install as below of matricom recovery boot plus matricom 1.22 beta
delete userdata etc and it should format the partition , info below

_https://wiki.matricom.net/i/MX2_Firmware

_https://wiki.matricom.net/i/MX2

I have used the matricom bootloop MX2 boot recovery file to install the boot into the box

note, the remote wont work but its done when you get the recovery menu onscreen

move to a folder or delete after doing it (I moved it to a folder on the sdcard)

then you put the matricom 1.22 beta file and GAPP file onto the root of the sdcard

follow the website instructions , booting to the recovery screen , wiping the userdata etc

then installing 1.22 beta, followed by GAPP - the remote should work with this

should be NO ERRORS if you watch it all install , then reboot after doing BOTH

you should get the matricom boot logo, then the G logo whilst booting to win8 tile type menu

so not ANDROID GADGETS (like from droid2014) or anything else as you need a clean install

then install TVMC 13.2 GOTHAM and also KODI 14.1 using file manager

then install fusion and install all their files from the fusion section in the system menu , like start afresh , config wizard etc

use the config wizard in programs to set the box up, you will then see genesis and icefilms etc

also add the other repos (in add files)

SuperRepo repo
xunity-talk repo

install vidics and any other apps you need from the gotham and kodi menus

do any app or repo updates that need doing

in win8 screen , add a gmail address in the settings and adjust the screen to fit the tv , check the network too

add titanium backup root and anything else to the bootup wintiles screen and/or ALL APPS in the win8 tiles screens

so simple reboot , root checker , showbox , mobdro , iplayer , itv player , c4 and c5 , bbc news etc

same with the app backup & restore apk etc too (plus any other apk installers you may have)

repo links , fusion , xunity , superRepo

_https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-xunitytalk-repo-xbmc/

_http://xunitytalk.com/xfinity/

_https://superrepo.org/get-started/

_http://srp.nu

so do this TWICE,

once in TVMC GOTHAM choosing GOTHAM in the repos

once in KODI choosing KODI in the repos

some info here on rooting if you need it (which I doubt)

if using matricom 1.22 beta its already rooted, root checker from play store will confirm , as will titanium backup root (free)

hello ech, thanks for this guide, i have same box from the same source jfrog, i have been trying different firmware on this box. i dont know what you tested but i tested
1.20
1.2.2 beta
open elec
plus i used the suppliers, and out of all of them gone back to suppliers firmware which is the same as the rest but made to look good, plus it is loaded with spmc ( dont like ) so i put gotham 13.1 and 13.2, so i can run both with different sources. i dont know if you tried suppliers firmware i think its august 2014, and i think that's what you are using sorry if im wrong, the 1 i am using again is g18ref-ota-1/9/2014, sorry just to slow to post, but as long as you got it working, until you put up this post i forgot about the mx2 so all good now, and 3 files on sdcard updated in 5 mins.

i think i may be wrong but this was/is the last firmware for the gbox android box, but it does work with gbox and mx2 there is a few more cannot find them at the min , i will update.

dont think I have that 2014 firmware as mine was all JF 2013 july firmware and I dont think his site works for me any more so mine seems to be 12 months older than yours (no idea what spmc is either)

like umgum I was looking at a new fully loaded box the grand daughter got for her recent birthday (different supplier) and trying to clone it with little success

I think the supplier has protected the custom firmware etc so unable to clone it, so had to leave it as no access to files, it has a custom app that "phones home" and resets or updates the box

as you say, you can have more than one xbmc on them so I have gotham 13.2 and kodi 14.1 now

I did install 1.20 but had boot issues due to not having the matricom bootloader , so eventually found the matricom repair bootloader and 1.22 beta work ok

I suspect that we all bought at different times so have different files, which if they put them on a protected ftp site like JF means we cannot all get at them or download them (not unless you pm me the site and pass)

I know there was an oct 2014 custom firmware but dont seem to be able to find it
