Thinking of getting a Vu+ zero . Noticed there doesn,t seem as much info on these as some of the others. I'm after a Linux but on a bit of a budget would anyone recommend it ?

Yes 100% I would
had a play with one recently and apart from the second tuner etc nearly forgot it wasn't my solo2
that's how good they are

Cheers for that. Do you have to buy extra stuff for it ? Haven't done anything like this since cable and all you needed for that was a null modem to connect it to a PC.

just a usb stick (for flashing, maybe picons and epg) and an external usb hdd (recording)

have a look through the vu section and you'll learn a lot
they all work in a similar way

I have one also and for the money they perform fantastic.
Nice thing is they are so small you can hide them behind your TV :D

they are also new to the market so that is why you wont find much on them, but you will find plenty of info on their older brothers and cousins which all work in a similar way but the solo 2 is considered one of the best twin tuners and can also take an internal laptop hdd too so is a good (but dearer) alternative

so this must be thought of as a single tuner version of the solo 2 , probably replacing the older solo

I would recommend a 16 gig usb stick which are cheap and plentiful , a 32 gig orange lexar was on eb*yer today for £6.99 and the green lexar 8 gigs are a steal at around £4 or so

It arrived today but still waiting on some of the other stuff. Do I follow the instructions for getting it up and running (finding satellites storing channels etc )or just ignore them and put black hole or similar on it ?

Probably a silly question really but thanks anyway. Could imagine Id probably be best setting it up as per instructions that came with it when installing the dish. Could follow the guide at a later stage.Does that sound right.

Cheers I know some of these questions must sound a bit daft but I really am green.

Download the VU+ Control centre, once again supplied by Lee, from Goldwafers:

It looks useful and I may explore a bit more . I use Kodi all the time and it's great, but reckon I'm possibly better just buying a WiFi mouse to use as a remote control. I'll be in enough trouble when she comes home from work and finds a 1m dish on the house.:p

If she asks why we didn't discuss it I'll just say echelon told me you only need planning permission for anything over 1m lol

Update

Had this now for about six weeks and I'm really pleased with it. Took a bit of getting used to as it's not a bespoke box so needs a bit of playing with (for a novice with no previous experience ) to get it up and running but think it was a good choice. Shame it does not have XBMC/Kodi but find Webif really useful for watching my sat on a laptop Just a thanks to all the lads on here who have offered and continue to offer some great advice.

There is TSMedia, which will run on the Zero, that has a lot of the 'features' that Kodi offers.
