Hello, names Bongo, been around and interested for a long time, back in the day i remember buildiing a circuit board and antenna at an electronics class and receiving random data from space, must have been about 1983 or therabouts, always had an interest, never had the time or the money. Might have some time now but not necessarily the money.

Not a big tv head, the technologys fun, someone gave me a hd6000 the other day, there was an old dish on the house and with a little bit of the old left/right/up/down weve got a picture! And more channels than you could imagine, weve come along way since HTV Harlech....still getting to grips with the sat box, theres a lot to take in, i threw out the sly box about 10 years ago which couldnt be more basic.

A question or two please, has anyone written a 'Satellite viewing for Dummies' or can point me in a direction thats going to give me a good sensible read? and is it worth my time to have a motorised dish set up?

hi , welcome to the forum

this forum tends to have sections specialising in the various aspects of this complicated hobby

so dish and lnb forums for those queries and faq,s (with sticky threads for hot topics)

spiderbox section with sub forums like the 6000 one , firmware, softcams and channel lists etc

also general sat box sections like a general HD receiver section for more general queries

its a case of sitting down and having a good look through them all , starting with ones applicable to your equipment and location

your box will give more channels on a motorised dish of say 80cm to 100cm , subject to a suitable south facing aspect (like a south facing wall) - but more setting up will be needed and for now you may only get mainly fta channels

good luck
