View Full Version : remote control question..
.. remote control is kaput..
Q.1 Anyone know/have experience of using a "learning" type remote control with this box (someone will sell me a working "learning" one for a couple of quid)...or will I need to source a (specific) new remote. Have seen a few on *b*y £12-15..anyone bought one of these?
Q.2 for now I can use the front panel buttons to change channels and get into the menus. However, the box is currently (stuck) on my Favorites no.3 channels.. my news channels. Does anyone know if it's possible to change to another Favourites number/set of channels or simply show the whole list of channels that are on the box without a remote..i.e. by using front panel buttons and menus?..I cannot see a way.
thanks for reading

I use a Logitech Harmony 525 remote control which is ok with the spider, it also controls my panosonic tv and the sat positioner as well, it ain't cheap or very well laid though, Harmony claim their advanced remotes will control just about anything.
I tried the mute switch on my wife but it didn't work, so there boast didn't quite live up to their claim !
(the 525 is discontinued, the 350 is also discontinued but that's still available for £25, the 650 is about £80)

in answer to question 1
my better half trod on my remote and was totally unusable
so i got spiderbox 6000 for £13 free postage and packing off *bay*
and can confirm it works perfectly
you do not actually say which spider box its for
thanks Tony
thanks extreafacto..it's a 6000 HD (why I posted it in this sub-forum)
Would still be interested to know if the cheaper/ordinary "learning" remotes have worked for anyone?...
and/or if all channels can be brought up on screen by using the front-panel buttons (while the box is currently "stuck" on the channels I had selected for Fav NO.3)

When I first started using my spider 6000 I had 2 problems with the remote control, the first was one of the buttons kept sticking down, (on all the time) the second was the emitter diode must have taken a knock as one of the joints to it was either dry or displaced, all worked on the front panel ok until I fixed the RC

Is it physicaly damaged? I would try to take a batteries out for few minutes and put them back again (enough time to reset the remote) /check out the -/+ for any signs of corrosion. Had all sorts of problems with my remote (I even started a thread here about the Remotes) After a little TLC my remote works to this day without a problem. Just a thought
thanks all..yes roadrunner this remote is irrevocably damaged I'm afraid....but thanks for that advice anyway. I will try the (£2 to me) basic learning remote I've been offered (before I buy!..last of the big spenders eh!!)..will report back here on whether or not it works...just for the record.
When I have time at the weekend I'll also have good go and see if I can get the whole channel list to appear using the available front panel buttons (as I said the box is currently set on my 30 or so news channels in "Fav3" and without the remote I can't see how to move away from that selection)..actually I want my sports channels i.e favourites#5..but I'd be content to select them manually temporarily if I could get an all channel listing showing on the screen. I expect in the end I'll proably have to buy on e of the replacement remotes suitable for this box as referred to above.
thanks for all your helpful responses.
