I'd replace the fan.
Although the SSD will reduce the internal heating in the box, the fan is mainly there to protect the CPU.
You might get away with no fan in winter but next summer it could give problems.

As above you are far better off replacing the fan.
Although it's not just there to cool the cpu, it's to give airflow through the box, to cool the psu, cpu, motherboard and the tuners (all of which generate a fair amount of heat).
As a temp measure you could remove the fan, and use an external fan to blow cool air through the box (but this will probably make more noise than the standard fan does).

to be honest the ssd has improved matters from the first 3.5 hd i installed so i think it's now not that bad only the fan noise to put up with no spinning drive
All very good advices here mate.
Deffo replace the fan!!!
There is the effect of thermal runaway, where an electronic component overheats, draws more current, then the cycle continues, until component failure occurs!!!
They get noisy, as the bearings clog up with dust!!!!
I have a Vu+Duo also.
Solid Korean STB, and at least it has a separate PSU, for easy change out, should it fail.
Can't see a fan on fleaby oddly enough.
Give our sponsors a call.
They may be able to help.
