Hi

Got my Vu+ Zero today and I'm trying to get it working

followed the instructions on the easy set up guide provided

I get as far as scanning but the scans return no service found

should I be able to set the Zero as a free to air receiver straight out of the box, without installing all sort of Images, skins, channel lists etc...??

think of it as a computer in a box (running linux)

everything needs to be setup, including the tuner , until the basic setups are done nothing will work

so if this is on a sly dish at 28.2e then you need to setup the tuner for that before doing a scan of 28.2e

but most people dont actually do scans at all

we tend to install a channel list, called a settings list , for the sats we want to watch that we can point the dish at

so fixed dish or motorised or something in between

catseye has his E2 settings lists in the E2 settings forum here on pimps, so we download the latest required list and install it using dreamset or dreamboxedit

the VuCC 0.8 tool is also very useful for various other settings and computer commands

cant say I have ever tried a scan on a fresh box, as I have used catseye lists for maybe 8 years now

go into your tuner setup and check you have set the required setting, fixed for the sat you wish to scan, or whatever settings is correct for your dish setup

We probably need a bit more information, are you on a fixed dish or motorised dish and the image you are using, but have you set up the tuner?

no services found

This is as far as I got with it

Is my next step to get a channel list and try it in?

I would say so , yes

I would think your image hasnt got the transponder details file in it, or you may have to choose network or some other option when scanning

the point is that your box probably needs a data file in order to scan a satellite , which I think is an xml file (satellites.xml), but I have never done a scan on a fresh install so cannot say how people get around this problem without adding a settings list

my advice ?

use VuCC to connect to your box , use telnet to set a password for your image on your box

then use dreamset v2.48 in enigma 2 , v4 (http reload) mode , import the 28.2e catseye list (after unpacking it) and transfer this list into your box, then restart enigma2 (E2) , or reboot the box from the menu (shutdown-restart)

never had your box but I assume it also has an ethernet socket so connect it to your router so it gets an IP address and then run the network wizard and set up your network lan conenction and test it to make sure it works

I found this guide

____://www.vuplus-community.net/board/threads/howto-connect-your-vu-zero-via-rs232-serial-connector.22109/[/url]

So I won't get my hand on one of these soon

Can the channel list be uploaded with a USB?

The link that you posted that was a live link which is not allowed here I have edited, please read the site rules. This refers to a serial connection that you do not need.Just follow the instructions given by echelon below.

All images I have used have a satellites.xml file installed by default so you should be able to scan a sat. I do a scan for time to time on a new image without installing the catseye list just for quick testing. However I agree with echelon the catseye list is the best option if that doesnt work you need to check your dish, lnb and cable.

just checked the rear image for a vu zero and cannot see any rs232 connector, but it does have ethernet in the middle of the rear backplate

ps:- you have not mentioned which image and version number YOU have installed onto the box yet either

perhaps the default image doesnt have a satellites.xml file ?

in post #1 you mentioned following the basic guide, so we were led to believe you followed the dummies guide here on pimps in the sticky threads, which usually details the blackhole image, so if you dont explain yourself better you cannot get bespoke help because you are assuming we already know what you are doing and what files and images you are using, plus you assumed we knew which satellite you were pointing the dish at too ;)

poor info = poor advice

most images have no password

your box has an ethernet port on the back plate in the middle, connect it to your router

install a bespoke image , or install the catseye 28e settings file , or both

One last thing to add, the cable is a standard rj45 if you can't connect to your router you can connect directly to your pc or laptop.

**update**

Took the Zero to a friends house with similar set up, connected and all good, all channels show up and it works as a fta receiver.

So the issue was with my cabling at home, the cable between my Lnb and the box has two connections mid way, and after inspection i found the issue.

Now the Zero works as a fta satellite receiver with same settings as it came out of the box.

Good progress, i am also able to log into the zero over the internet with VuCC.

So my next steps will be to start customizing the Zero, install Blackhole, channel lists and plugins

Good learning curve and excellent support from you guys so thank you again for the advise

Not sure if I need to close this thread now, or keep it open and keep coming back here as no doubts I'll have more questions along the way?

leave it open for now as I am sure you will be back ;)

good idea to test it on a working sat system, means you dont get screwed like you did with your faulty coax cable

Latest :-)

I followed the Dummies guide to setting up Vu+ Zero and found it very useful for a newbie like me.

I have the image Blakhole installed and running

The tuner is set up and configured

Installed VUcc and use it to upload Catseye channel list.

I'm able to access the the WebControl through the VuCC, and than onto the Bouquet Editor, which i believe will allow me to customise the channels available to me (too many there at the moment)

so far so good, but I'm stack at the next step

4. Install Cam - There is nothing happening at all when i try to use the ftp on VuCC

Do I have a faulty version of VuCC? de-install it and reinstall?

I can Telnet with the VuCC, and also the IPK installer seems to run

Any advise?

FTP is just File transfer Protocol software, using VUCC should start up FileZilla, a free FTP program.
You can download, and install, FileZilla separately:

https://filezilla-project.org/
You want the Client version.
Once dowloaded you start it up, enter your receivers IP address in Host, root in Username, leave the password blank, unless you've set one up, and click Quick Connect.
You should then see the files, off your PC, on the left, and the files on your VU+ on the right.

you are better off using dreamset or dreamboxedit to alter or install channel lists IMHO

dreamset is a portable tool so no installation required (as are several tools for your box)

VuCC is a portable tool so again no installation is required

if you downloaded VuCC from here then no its not faulty, neither are the other tools for dreamboxes and vu boxes
