Open Blackhole v0.1 image, router has a static IP address.

So I've done a good bit of searching (here and google) to find out how to setup streaming (LAN & WAN) and Transcoding - and of course I'm all over the place with all the settings and IP stuff.

I "hope" to use a Windows 7 laptop and an Android Tablet to stream.

I gather I have to configure my router, the STB's transcoding and OpenWebIF ?
But how is this done in the first instance, and also, how is it done so that I make certain that it's secure so that no one else can access my STB via OpenWebIf etc ??

My router's port forwarding looks like this (end of IP is hidden) :) ;

65072

If possible I'd rather not use the obvious default port settings for streaming (like port 80), that's my reasoning for using external port 85 ( haven't a bogs notion if this is the correct format !! )

What should the settings be for the plugins - transcoding and OpenWebIF ???

I have managed to access my STB via OpenWebIf - externally - (a pure feckin fluke I might add ) and when I click on the stream icon an m3u file is downloaded.
After googling m3u files I find another can of scuttering worms- like having to configure VLC etc etc - Jesus !!!

Any advice ?? Any patience you could loan to me !!

the security side of a box is easy, you telnet in and change the password from the default to one of your own choosing, (plus you can change the name and password logins to things like oscam in a similar way, like in the oscam file using DCC or an ftp program)

so make sure you followed the VU sticky threads on setting up your box, which includes using VuCC(or DCC) to password your box from any default or blank password that the image placed into it when flashed

also ensure you have the box using a fixed ip address , then just put that ACTUAL ip address into your web browser to access the WEBIF

for streaming, put the WEBIF url into your browser

now select BBC1 or BBC1HD from your bouquet

on the right are 3 buttons , epg / full stream / transcoded

click on transcoded to start with, choose VLC or GOM PLAYER (make sure you have installed your player first) and this will open and your channel will play

the same will happen with a full stream (middle icon) but wont be transcoded

once you get the hang of it, that is how you stream to your laptop

there is an android VU app for viewing on an android tablet or phone

Thanks a mil echelon - you've provided quite a lot of info, and so I got I started last night with it;

1st up - the transcoding setup plugin:

Are you supposed to be able to assign/amend the port to be used, because when I open the transcoding plugin the only settings are
Bitrate & Video Size and the only menu options are "Quit" & "Set";

( I suspect there's somewhere else I should be going into ) :banghead:

Transcoding plugin screen issue sorted ( well it will be once get home )
Seems the port value settings cannot be seen and I only have to adjust the screen layout via another plugin called UI Position
