Can't get the Vu Duo to start??

Hi,
I've been having a problem for a while with my Duo re downloading EPG but now I've a more serious problem,I switched off the box and switched the power off at the back of the receiver.
I now cannot get the receiver to boot up. When I switch the power back on I get the red light on the receiver but it refuses to boot up. I've switched the power to the box on and off numerous times but it just refuses to boot up.

Is there anything I can try to remedy this problem.

Yes common problem my box died a couple of years ago and a simple C807 capacitor replacement cures it.

Easy fix if you can use a soldering iron.

I soldered a new C807 cap in for a member here a couple of years ago, so if that is your fault its an easy fix for somebody with a bit of knowledge and a soldering iron

ps:- I took the easy way out and cut the legs off the old cap and soldered the new cap to the existing stumpy legs :)

saves dismantling the duo , no need to remove the board , quick and easy fix

Well the Vu Duo is dead.
I replaced the cap and still the same. So took it to a local TV repairer here in Tenerife who says there is a fault on the circuit board which means replacing components which are not available.

My next question is what box do I get to replace it. I was happy originally with the VU box but lately I've had a load of problems re EPG download etc etc. I also had the capacitor 807 replaced last year. Are the current crop of VU boxes OK or have they also built in problems, in short what box would you recommend, I can't afford the DMs but the old DM800 I had was great.

Any suggestions please

as you had a duo1 like me I would recommend the newer vu solo 2 , which is what I moved to last year , with an internal 2.5 inch sata hdd (I fitted a 1tb hdd) and also add a 16gb or 32gb small factor usb stick in a rear usb slot, mainly to store picons and the epg data on, mine is small and black and kingston I think

so with a solo 2 and an internal hdd and an external rear mounted usb stick you are good to go, very fast machine and excellent at doing what you say you want, well supported too

one option you can do is install the latest openBH in the flash mem, then format the usb stick to ext4 and use multiboot to install various images onto the stick, like BH and openVIX and openPLI etc

you can then select either the openBH and boot from the flash mem or select one of the images on the stick , so you can test what is best for you

have a separate second usb stick of between 2gb and 16gb for flashing from the front usb port

you can flash the box with BH3 or openvix4 if you wish to , that is your choice , especially if you have one preferred image you are happy with

yes it is , my reply only mentioned the Vu Solo 2 , no mention by me of SE or any other variant

mine is the standard Vu Solo 2 , with an internal 2.5 inch sata hdd fitted ( 1tb ), which is £261.80p

as with your duo1 , you have the choice of which image to use , a single image like before, or multiboot to try several , so your new choices are no different than your old duo1 choices , simply because they make the same images for all the VU range, including your old duo1

so to clarify, I meant the VU SOLO 2 which is what I said, and no variants like the SE (which may be ok but I have no experience of any of them except the duo1 you had and the solo 2 I recommended and mainly use now)

there are several machines sold by goldwafers that will do what you want , but the solo 2 is a damn fine box and highly recommended

also, the PSU is an external power brick and easily changed, plus it keeps the boxes cooler when they have external psu,s , less to go wrong too

Further to my 1st post above, the repair chap here in Tenerife has pinpointed the problem to the "integrated circuit regulator chip" which is the nearest one to the C807 capacitor. Anyone any idea where I might source one from, I checked the internet but without some sort of catalogue number i'm hitting a brick wall. Would be handy to get it fixed just as a spare

If my memory serves me right, I read that they are a bugger to replace as the solder points are minute.
But yes, this is also another known problem with the VU.

Sorry but no.

I seem to recall that it took me a lot of research to find a source but didn't go ahead with it as replacing the capacitor solved my problem.
I think the source was China. I will search through my files when I have time to see if I have a record of the source.

I found a reference to this in my do***ents but I would check carefully that this is indeed the correct one.

AOZ1021Ai voltage regulator.

I will keep looking as I know I did find a source but didn't bother with one as it was not really needed.


Just a thought, did you replace the capacitor the correct way?
+ goes to + minus goes to minus?

They only work if the polarity is right.

Ordered mine at £2.99 which includes 3 Capacitors, U801 regulator and postage

Yes, U801 is the correct one. I hope it's not too difficult to replace.
