Hi everyone, i switched off my sb6000 yesterday at the plug for the first time in ages and when i switched it back on it reboots but displays 0000 on the display and then the tv displays the spiderbox logo and then the menu screens without any writing. Not quite a plain blue screen but no writing, or channels or anything. Any ideas? Cheers

Reinstall the firmware via RS232 port and null modem cable, reinstall channels, if that doesn't work - bin your box. There's a guide in this section already how to do this, use the search feature to find it. Hint (search for spiderbox recovery).

no luck with the recovery tool. wont pick up the sb 6000 on hyperterminal. Must be bricked. Gutted. Was a fantastic box

Why must it be bricked? The fact it shows the spiderbox logo means it's probably not bricked. Just needing a reflash - you maybe haven't got the com port set up correctly or the USB RS232 adapter set up properly. Maybe you should let someone who knows how to do this do it for you.

I agree

we have no idea if the OP was using a proper desktop or tower with built in fifo com port on com 1 or com 2 and running windows xp pro (or there are some similar older laptops like my old HP)

failure does not prove its a faulty box, it may just prove that the incorrect equipment or OS was used

in my experience most if not all usb adapters fail, plus there is no guarantee that the lead was correctly wired as a null modem cable unless the OP buzzed it out using a multimeter on the resistance setting

Hi guys

Im using a sony viao laptop running xp with a rs 232 port running straight to the sb via a rs232 cable, no usb adapters.. Ive used the set up a couple of years ago with another sb. It could of course be the cable, but unlikely. Im getting another tomorrow. Its strange how the box boots up and shows the spiderbox logo then goes to 0000 display.

The problem seems to be that the laptop isnt making connection with the sb so i cant upload the firmware. Ive had this box from the very start so it doesnt owe me anything, more just disappointed. If it doesnt work out i will buy another.

Hi guys

Got a new rs232 cable and I can now connect to spiderbox.

I am following the instructions,
03. Connect RS232 Cable to STB and PC and execute HyperTerminal (use a fully wired null modem cable)
04. Make new connection - make name
05. Select Com port
06. Set Speed and other (115200 – 8Bit – No parity – 1 StopBit – No HW control)
07. Press space on HyperTerminal every 0.5 seconds (half a second) from the time when turn on STB,
08. When HyperTerminal shows the below picture on PC, then stop pressing space.
09. It shows to ask to select one of menu from 3 menus.
10. Select “2. Upgrade Application with Xmodem”
11. Select menu->Transfer->Send File in HyperTerminal
12. Set protocol Xmodem and select (not type

However from the step 10, when I have selected 2 I dont seem to have very long from then to select the file and protocol drop down, I then send and then get an error message "error limit exceeded"

Ive copied all the text from the pc;

perseverance pays :)
