do i have to register my firestick to put kodi on as it seems it won`t let me do anything unless i register it

You have to register it but there is nothing that forces you to use your own account.

You can even use this site to generate a name you can use :

h**p://www.fakenamegenerator.com/

I use an Amazon account I created using a name complete with a cc number from there when setting up Firesticks and Boxes for friends and relatives if I do not have their details, then I just tell them to deregister that name and register with their own account, if they want to buy any apps but if they do not buy anything they can leave it as it is.
