Recommend new receiver

Hi, what would your recommendations be on a new receiver. I've got a tired old spiderboxhd9000. I would like something simple as I'm not too tech savie .
I have an iPad and a Mac book. Would I be able to upgrade the firmware and channel list with the apple stuff.
This is bit long winded but any help would be appreciated.

and for macbook use idreamx do a google
