Does anyone know the Maximum size of USB stick for recordings or is it possible to change this in the settings?

I have been able to record on a 2GB USB pen drive but both the larger 1TB and 2TB USB pen drives will not record? they are detected but when i press the record button i get the message "no device"

help much appreciated

I doubt that you can buy pen drives of such a capacity

the typical pen drives are 16gb , 32gb or 64gb

the first 2 should work if formatted to fat32 by the box

the largest one I have seen for sale is 128gb

" I have been able to record on a 2GB USB pen drive but both the larger 1TB and 2TB USB pen drives will not record? they are detected but when i press the record button i get the message "no device" "

That message some times comes up if the device is not formatted by the receiver, some times if you remove the drive and then insert it again the message " Device Detected " comes up then you can start recording.

read this thread https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthread.php?173945-new-usb-hard-drive-not-recognised

bear in mind that 1tb or 2tb drives will be hard disc drives, not pen drives

also bear in mind that the larger sized pen drives may be usb3, so read about the power issues too

a powered usb hdd external hdd is the best option, partitioned and formatted by the box

thanks again, i formatted the 1TB USB pen to NTFS format and it seems to record ok but i cannot play the recording back on tv?

i formatted it on the HD6000 and when i go to record i get the message "operate fail"

unfortunately cannot play on back on the laptop

just another wee question, is it possible to pause recordings as i cannot seem to be able to do that?

as I said earlier, it has to be formatted to fat32 on the box

if using a laptop , format it using a specialised formatting tool , like easeus partition manager or minitool partition wizard , in fat32 (not ntfs and not any other format either) - NOT using windows file explorer or windows formatting tools

windows has a fat32 limit of 32gb (always has done)

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/format-fat32-drives-beyond-32gb-limit/

the thread I linked contains a lot of information about overcoming this 32gb restriction

once the box can record and play back , its in the correct format for the box

this does not mean that the recordings are in the correct format for playback on a tv or in a pc or it may mean they need specialised playback tools like VLC or similar , you may find the recordings wont play back on any tv if they cannot handle the codecs required (especially not TS files)

a tv will typically play back mp4 , possibly divx , probably not .ts files or similar

I have just checked a 32gb pen drive and its formatted in fat32 and the recordings are in ts format so I doubt that a tv can play them (although the spiderbox can play them because it recorded them and must have the codecs embedded)

a tv will expect the pen drive to be formatted in fat32 as well , not ntfs

I am surprised that you have a 1tb pen drive as I struggled finding one when I searched last night

if you are playing back a recording made on the pen drive whilst it is actually in the spiderbox , press OK or the PAUSE button to pause the playback , press again to continue playback

if you have pressed the "instant record" button , press the PAUSE button to pause a live recording , at say an advert break, then resume when the programme restarts

Sandisk have just announced a 1Tb SD card, and this costs thousands, as these items tend to run hand in hand on development
I would think that a 1Tb USB would cost similar, if the one you have is marked as 1Tb then I think this may be where the problem lies.
There are a lot of bogus USB pen drives out there, unless you buy from well known brands you can often get stiffed.

I agree, any I found on flea b*y came from china and are likely to be fakes

"proper" makes like sandisk , crucial verbatim etc seem to be a lot less

anyone wanting to use 1tb or 2tb drives usually use powered external usb hdd drives, but again these have to be formatted outside of the windows tools due to the microsoft limitations that have been imposed for over a decade

checked on e buy er and a 512gb is £217.06

Corsair 512GB USB 3.0 Flash Voyager GS Flash Drive

Flash Voyager GS 512GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive
USB 3.0 interface, USB 2.0 compatible

Write speed up to 290MB/s

it used to say LANRY on buses but there wasnt any inside

chances are its fake and misreporting its capacity , like most fakes do

either way , it needs formatting with a tool (not windows) to fat32 (not ntfs)

the above fact has been a fact for years , due to microshaft limitations on fat32

I believe you have a fake pen drive , have not understood how to format it into a partition of fat32 , plus you dont understand the different file formats for video files, nor the limitations of your tv or laptop in playing said file formats (ie:- using mediaplayers and suitable codecs)

we have had these discussions above on here for several years and especially since the spiderbox 9000 and 7000 came onto the market several years ago
