The Solo 4K looks like an excellent receiver.

Hi den123,
It has 2 tuners and pick's up 8 channels at once ( Think its 8 ? )
The DVB/C/TV terrestrial tuner at Gold w@fers costs £49 per installed.
den, If your 4k LCD has ( HDR ) the VU+ Solo is up to now the
only 4k STB to deal with HDR.

"Sony KD-55XD9305 review. This slimline 4K HDR TV is a technological tour de force and a great start for Sony's 2016 TV range."

Den I have had the solo 4k for a year now great box. Just one thing mate cccam does not work on any arm based 4k box. You will need to learn how to use oscam but there are back up images available that have it already set.

Who told you this ?
Look over here :
update drivers(solo4k, uno4k, ulitmo4k)
- Fix HDR
- Fix PiP(solo4k)
- Fix DVB-CI(solo4k)
- Improve demux(solo4k)
this says otherwise or did it not?

HDR means absolute Zero on the Solo4K/Uno4K/Ultimo4K unless you play Movie rips with HDR enabled material from either a USB or internal/External harddrive.
What we actually need is HLG which is the standardised format agreed upon for Television Broadcast, the BBC will release a Test HLG 4K channel next year, they already have a Test HLG on iPlayer for 4K panasonic TV's.
So here is a Tip if you dont already own a 4K TV and are in the process of purchase make sure you buy something that is HDR and HLG compliant, next years models will no doubt include HLG as standard CES in Las Vegas is less than 3 weeks away we will see then whats on offer

The best box is the Ultimo4K.
However it might not be the best for your needs.
If you only need 2 tuners, then the Uno4K will do the job, as will the Solo4K.

the tv is the fantastic
its a shame the solo4k cant play uhd encoded x264. Tons of uhd bluray encodes out there but useless on the solo 4k

4K UHD Blu Rays dont actually use the X.264 codec they use HEVC (X.265) the 'Rips' you see are actually 'Re-Encodes' again after they have been raw captured from Source, As i am sure everyone knows UHD Blu Ray discs at the moment cannot be 'Ripped' directly from source (Disc).
All My 4K UHD Rips i have are all HEVC encoded and range from around Lowest 55gb to around 90gb in size, They are also HDR encoded which the solo 4K does play. I personally use the Nvidia Shield for media playback and leave the Solo 4K for its primary use as a Satellite receiver
theres no way to rip them with HDR metadata intack, easy to fake though. More and more rips are being ripped to mjpeg then encoded rather than to a lossless codec then reencoded, ive seen people mention on hdbits how can x encode look better @ a lower bitrate than y encode @ a higher bitrate. Answer - lossless cap vs mjpeg. As for Hevc its requires a **** ton of cpu so they just opt for a preset that will do rather than a quality encode :( the x264 encodes are still huge. A driver patch could fix the play back.
Will the solo 4k ever get a dvbs2x addon tuner? Looking at the Octogon 4k that's coming with dvbs2x 16 and 32apsk and multistream. VU need to up there game.

Yep! i know they are fake but at least the HDR metadata that they inject into the 'Rips' is correct as 99% off all the 'Official' sample HDR test from LG,Samsung,Panasonic.Sony all use the same HDR Metadata structure.
VU+ have lost out big time now they should have at least made 100% sure that the P&P tuners on the 2 new models Ultimo/Uno could be backwards compatible with DVB-S2X, i certainly wont upgrade now until the models in 2018 there are still many changes ahead to come regards 4K on satellite and HLG being one of them

The tuners can do dvbs-2x
It's just a case of waiting for them to implement it into the software (don't think uno4k will support s2x, but i'm sure ultimo4k will)

The Uno 4K uses the same Plug & Play tuners as the Ultimo 4K so if they do it one model it should be possible on the other, And other STB manufacturers have already implemented it so why wait

No, because the cpu / chipset that the boxes use, need to support it too.
The 7252s (uno4k), does not look like it can support s2x, however it looks like the 7444s (ultimo4k) might do.

Then why would the previous BCM 7251 chpset which is used in the Octagon 4008 fully support DVB-S2X, And Vu+ omit it from a newer chipset i highly doubt it.

Hi All,
@digicon, Can I ask a Question.
What HDR is in the VU 4k Solo.
My 4k TV has HDR10 with 2.0a HDMI
socket needed to receive HDR.
My Question is, Can a Firmware update enable the
TV to receive HLG, or is new hardware needed when built.
Is HDR going to be like ( Betamax and VHS )
Out of the three (HDRs) HDR10 & Dolby Vision & HLG
were do you GO.
Netflix is using HDR10 (Tried month free).
Hotbird 4K channel (4K2) is using HLG as is BBC.
Not seen any Dolby Vision (HDR) yet
Thanks BF.

the dvbs2x demo on astra might be the dolby test. HLG will be the standard for sat though. Spec for sat 4k delivery need finalizing. phase 2 is taking forever. Could be worse you buy your new 4k tv thinking your sorted then every year the goal posts move then a year down the road none of your gear is compatible. :)
