Hi ALL,
Anyone had a (HLG) HDR update for there UHDTV.
I have tried to find out if my Hisense 65XT910 is
getting one with No luck.
Why I'm after one is I would like to open the
BBC Iplayer 4 minute trial of HLG today (6/1/2016).
Only Panasonic 2015 and 2016 UHD TV will open
the HLG signal all other makes will have to look
for an Update.
HLG is as of July 2016 the international Standard
for Broadcast HDR
Sky in Japan already use HLG.
Sky UK will go to HLG soon.
The HLG is backwardly compatible with SDR TVs
so they will open the HLG signal but only in SRD.
All UHDTVs will open the HLG signal, and HLG
doe's not use any more bandwidth then the SDR uses.

Hi All,
@tigertimtim, Last year Sky Perfect (J SAT) in Japan
uploaded a HLG FIRMWARE Update for all UHD Tvs
including LG.
That's because they started HLG broadcasting in August
last year 2016 a month after (HLG became the
INTERNATIONAL Standard for HDR)
LCD will have to have hardware added in the form
of a (HDMI 2.2 socket or 2.0a) that's one of the
reason's UHDTVs just need a software update
already have the Hardware.
Thank BF.

You would have to email Hisense about your TV and then plead with them to release the relevant firmware for your TV if your lucky you might just get it done.
Just for information None of the Panasonic 2016 models have had any HLG update, i installed a 58" for a customer just before christmas and tested out the iPlayer Beta with the Planet earth clip and it worked but it certainly was not in HLG on his set, apparently the BBC released it exclusively for all Panasonic models even though none have had any HLG firmware update.
You can also view the test clip on the Sky Q UHD box via the iPlayer as well so you dont actually need a Panasonic TV
You may find some info in the following:

Hi All,
@Aldo, Yes helped.
@digicon, Do you think Panasonic
have somehow uploaded a
( HLG ) Firmware at the factory
stage, and why do you think its
only the Panasonic out of all
UHDTVs that can open the
BBC HLG iplayer trial.
All six Planet Earth II series
Have been shot in HLG.
The Only UHDTVs to open
iplayer HLG trial are..
Panasonic series,
CX700..CX680..CR730
CX800..CR852..CZ950
DX902..DR852..DX720
DX700...DX680..DX650.
Anyone with one of this
Tried the iplayer.
@digicon, The problem I
have and everyone else
with a UHD HDR TV is
on (07/2016) HLG was
approve as the International
Standard for HDR Broadcast TV
BT 2100 stated, Image parameter
value for HDR range television for
use in production and International
programme exchange
RECOMENDATION
BT2100-0 (07/2016).
Approved in (2016/07/04)
Status Inforce (MAIN).
My point is, I bought my
UHD HRD TV in (Aug 2016)
one month after HLG became
the International standard for
HDR broadcast TV.
Should the seller have told me.
This UHD HDR TV will not work
properly with the BBC and Sky
channels, you will only receive
the (SDR) signal and not the
(HLG) Internationally Approved
signal.
It should fall on all Television and
ST Boxes manufacturers to tell us
there WILL be a HLG update
or Exchange the TV
for a HLG enabled TV.
What HDR update is the
VU+ 4K Sole getting,
Hotbird 13e had an HLG
channel (4K2) broadcasting
if Solo misses out on HLG
what's the Point.
Thank BF.

You dont have a leg to stand on with your TV as it was sold with the features at the time of purchase, if Hisense see fit to include HLG on there 2017 models then that is there prerogative they do not need to include it on any 2016/15/14 models.
I dont have a Panasonic i installed one for a customer and already knew that the BBC had included the Planet earth 2 clip exclusively for Panasonic TV owners on the iPlayer trial, Again the BBC can include it on any TV they like they obviously got some form of 'Bung' from Panasonic 'LOL'.
I am in exactly the same boat i have a 2016 OLEDE6V which last year LG actually showed HLG working on the same TV with an experimental firmware does this mean i will get the HLG firmware update only LG can tell me that, They have confirmed LG that is that all there 2017 OLED models will have HLG as standard.
Did i buy my TV because it may get an HLG update of course not i bought it for its features it had at the time of purchase not what it may or may not have in future updates.
The Vu Solo 4K already had HDR update on the early december dated drivers, it is now up to Vu+ as i said earlier to update drivers again (if its possible) to accommodate HLG. But your display device (TV) must also be HLG compatible if it is not then even though your Solo 4K may be HLG your TV will not display the correct mode for HLG.
My advice to you is either email Hisense and ask about the possibility of an HLG firmware Update for your TV, Hisense are pretty good at listening to customers
Good Luck

Hi All,
@ digicon, My point is HLG
( Hybrid log- *****) became
the Standard for HDR broadcast TV
in July 2016. My purchase was
August 2016.
Under Trading standards you
would think if you new nothing
about HDR the TV would work
with the BBC and SKYs
Broadcast TV signal.
The LG has already Had a
Software update in 2016
but only in Japan.
Sky Perfect October 2016 JSAK.
Commencement of 4k HDR
broadcasts, a software update
for Toshiba's 4k Regza Z20X
series is scheduled to become
available for download from late
August 2016.
Other companies UHD TV are
also sequentially scheduled to
become 4k HRD HLG capable
from this autumn 2016 including
Sony LG Toshiba and all other
UHDTVs.
Thanks BF.

As i said previously you dont have a leg to stand on in trying to return your TV, Unless you can find do***entation somewhere that specifically states that Hisense promised to upgrade your TV via firmware update to accommodate the HLG standard.
I can tell you now you wont find anything

Hi All,
'digicon, It was advertised as a HDR TV,
but not what type or HDR.
Had to wait till Sep 2016 before Hisense
uploaded the HDR software, then it was only
HDR10, why not include HLG the International
Standard for HDR.
No Dolby Vision, HDR in the update.
without a HLG Software Update before this
summer ALL UHDTVs except Panasonic
will loose out when BBC and Sky
Start there HLG broadcast TV signal.
That or buy a HLG enabled TV.
Its like buying a radio with
no tuner.
Thanks BF.
PS.. WHY is it OK for Japans LG
UHDTVs to get an HLG software
update, cold be a licence problem.

I am not quite sure what i have said previously that you dont understand.
HDR is not the same as HLG full stop they are both incompatible with each other.
HLG will be used for Broadcast Only and nothing else.
HDR is the standard used for UltraHD Blu Ray, Netflix, ****** prime as well as others so you bought and listen to what i am saying a HDR TV and it does exactly what it is supposed to do and that is display HDR material from relevant sources such as those i have just posted.
If you had wanted HLG then you should have waited until this years models to be released and then you would have had an HLG equipped TV set.
HLG WILL NOT BE USED on any other format apart from Broadcast 4K content and that could even change again.
Just do some research over the last 50 years or so of format battles ie: VHS v Betamax V V2000 then we had Sonys Minidisc V Compact Disc and lastly HD DVD V Blu Ray etc..
Nothing is set in stone other satellite broadcasters this year or even next year could bring out another format to rival HLG who knows

Hi All,
@digicon, If you has took notice, there is NO HDR signal being
transmitted in any FORM under the NAME HDR.
HDR is an UPGRADE from SDR, but there is ONLY one SDR SYSTEM
THERE are THREE, THREE, HDR SYSTEMS.
1..HDR10, The standard for Pre-Produced content, Unable to be
transmitted LIVE, it uses static metadata.
2.. Dolby Vision, is a proprietary alternative to HRD10, Dolby Vision
is unable to be transmitted LIVE, it uses dynamic metadata.
3..HLG, Unlike rival HDR systems, which rely on pre-encoded
signalling metadata to explain an HDR picture to a compatible telly
HLG is a scene-referred SYSTEM.
That's to say the delivered signal reflects the light in the original scene.
HLG has the ability to alter the HDR image based on the Viewing environment
-Light room, dark room, even specific brightness levels measured in nits.
That makes HLG fundamentally different from HDR10.
HLG HDR adjusts the Picture according to the surround ambient light level,
to ensure the image always looks acceptable.
HLG works particularly when shooting
live sporting events in stadiums where one half of the pitch is bathed in sunlight
and the other in darkness.,
SO, HOW CAN YOU SAY (HLG) IS NOT A HDR.
Update on HLG FIRMWARE for 2016 UHDTV.
SAMS@NG, All 2016 HRD TVs will be firmware upgradeable to support
(HLG) Hybrid log-Ga@mma broadcast HDR once it is widely
available, "we are emphatic, Sa@sung".
S@ny, Once the standard is confirmed, we will comment then.
So@y, A firmware upgrade for the new VPL VW55ES HDR 4K
home cinema projector to HLG coming soon.
Phili@s non-committal, currently under investigation.
LG, No official comment
Thanks BF.

I doubt any HLG updates will be released before all the new 2017 TV models are in the shops.
The manufacturers will want to sell new TV's rather than give away free updates.
