Recording on USB stick will be in .tsv format. If you want to play it back on a PC then rename it to a .ts file and it can be played with vlc or many other players.

I've never used notepad or an editor for this. In file explorer/file manager or whatever it's called on your PC just right click on the .tsv fie and Rename. Remove the "v" and press Return to save it with the new name - xxxxxxxx.ts

Should now play with VLC or most other video players.

How to Change a File Extension & Make File Extensions Visible on Windows.

Type Control Panel into the Windows 10 search box, at the bottom left of your task bar.

Click on Control Panel app.

Click Appearance and Personalization.

Click File Explorer Options or Folder Options.

Click the "View" tab, in the File Explorer Options dialog box.

Un-tick "Hide extensions from known file types"

Click Apply then click OK.

Now you can right click on your video file, using Windows Explorer, and rename the filename extension to .ts

I connected a external 2TB hard drive to my HT 9200 box but the box does not see it at all, is there a set up procedure to get the box to recognise the HD drive ?

How does the PVR work then ? you could plug any memory device into the Spiderbox and it would record and play back, it would be a bit of a step back for the HT box if it had no recording facility.

Hi,
If we are still talking about the HB9000 (someone mentioned the HB9200)...
You can use a portable 2.5 USB external hard drive.
I have a Samsung S2 - 1TB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive plugged into my HB9000.
I seem to remember I had to format my 1TB Samsung after connecting it to the HB9000 (not in Windows).
OR maybe I did not format it in the end... sorry... it is still NTFS... sorry I cannot remember exactly if I did actually format it.
Unfortunately, for the last few firmwares I often get not recognized errors.. solved by restarting the HB9000... but there were no errors in the past.
There also seems to be a difference depending on which USB port you use, left (next to power port) or right (with a sort of a card icon) (looking at the front of the box).
Left is best, I think. Maybe.

UPDATE> maybe it was not the latest firmwares to blame.
I just connected the Samsung S2 - 1TB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive to a PC with Windows 10, checked for errors, repaired, defragged... and then I plugged the HD back to the (left) USB port on the HB9000... and it gets detected first time, it records, and it plays back all my old, and new, recordings recorded on the HB9000. I hope this helps you.

UPDATE 2> Oh, dear, I just realized I bought that HD in... 2010!!! Probably for my Spiderbox 6000?

Hi Tonyo.

As I wrote, I am afraid that cannot remember (sorry, getting old) if I formatted the HD in the Hitechbox or even the Spiderbox... way back in 2010!

I seem to remember people recommending formatting the HD once connected to the Hitechbox. But maybe I did not follow that advice.

My guess, as the HD has been recognized by Windows as NTFS... is that I did not format it.

If you do not have anything valuable in the HD, at your own risk, it might be worth formatting it in Windows first, I would say... or once connected to the box if after formatting it in Windows it is still not recognized.

Sorry, just guessing.

Good luck.
