I might be buying a Renault Clio which apparently has inbuilt satnav using Tom Tom.
I don't know if it is 100% Tom Tom yet.

Assuming it is, can it be updated when new maps come out without and subscriptions?

Sadly, my very reliable but very old TT Go 300 no longer can take advantage of new maps as the memory is not big enough.

Don't believe what Tomtom tell you it can be updated by putting a new SD card in the GO 300

They have said that the map sizes are now too large for the TT Go 300.
I have been updating maps yearly since buying it back in 2004 or 2005.

My research tells me that it is unlikely that it can be updated without paying if the navcore is above a certain version, which it almost certainly will be as it is only about 18 months old.

I don't mind paying a reasonable fee but if it is extortionate, I will buy a stand alone TomTom with updates for life.

Is this regards TT Go 300 or in car TT in a Renault Clio?

I did once use a very large map, (Probably all of Europe) several years ago on my TT Go 300 using a 2mb card. It did work but it was very slow.
I went back to a 1mb card with just W estern Europe and it was back to normal speed.

I will have a go at updating my 300 with what is supposed to be too big a map and see what happens.
