What is softcam?

Could someone please explain what softcam is,i've never really thought about it.
I have a patch humax 5400 with lastest settings
I keep seeing files for softcam and was wondering if it is compatable
with my reciever

Humax keys format not in Softcam.keys

humax use a Key.bin file as a keys inside its HoT patch & can be access

through ur Ram.Editor Table in ur stb ,
