i do think i have seen it on a freeview box previously, but i tried a re scan of channels on my tv but it still didnt show up.

any ideas or was I wrong thinking bbc 1 hd is available on freeview???

I believe they did a test a few months ago , but as yet I dont think its available on freeview

and in any case I dont think your built in standard freeview would pick up a hd freeview channel , so you would probably need an addon box

looks like you are a bit previous , maybe in a year or three it might happen on digital terrestrial

The freeview HD trial is still running, but only from Crystal Palace (London). Initially, it was possible to get a trial box from the BBC (I *think* only 250 people got them)

If you live in London you might want to consider: -

I was one of lucky ones to get a terrestrial version of Humax HDCI 2000. ITV,CH4&Five stopped broadcasting but BBC HD is still on air from Crystal Palace.

BBC1 HD Terrestrial
It's FTA just like the rest of Freeview, even normal MPEG2 boxes can see the channel, they just can't receive/play it. Channel 31 from Crystal Palace. Standard Freeview receivers cannot handle an HD signal
Humax 5400
The receiver should see the signal but, again, can't do anything with it as it cannot handle HD
