I'm thinking of buying a new box next week and can't decide on the Humax HDCI-2000 or the Technomate 9100. Iv'e got a Dreambox 500s which i'm using at present. The trouble is if I went for the Humax HDCI-2000 I don't yet have a HDTV. So could I use it without a HDTV for a while and still see some benefits of HD? Also what HD channels would I be able to view at present?

You can use the HDCI2000 with a non HDTV, but not in HD quality of course, just enables you to view HDTV & MPEG 4 channels in the same way as normal MPEG 2 channels. Not too many HDTV channels that are FTA at the moment, mostly promo channels, but should increase in time.

Before buying any of those 2. I would strongly advise you to take a look at the topfield hd reviever now available from the sponsers on this site. I got noea couple of weeks ago.. None of the other 2 recievers come close in my opinion !
