Premiere was a great TV-Package, with its entirely 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, and also the whole UEFA Champions league and even the most popular weekly european matches, including a few Premiership games, Italian and Spanish footy was includeed, then they thought the package was to low in the price, and out of the blue, they took the Bundesliga and the European footy out of the package, and left only the UEFA Championsleague.

At the same time ARENA was born, that was the German way to have a similar system of pay per view fot the Domestic football league.

If you wanted to have the full sport package, means Bundesliga, Champions League and NASN you have to subscribe Premiere, TIVIDI and ARENA.
But the forgot that people, even Germans, are dam good in maths, and the expected aditional subscriptions stud off.

Now they advert that Premiere and ARENA have joined the Platforms and they want to offer both together in one package.

How stupid, do they think that the Germans are?

Reason for this trouble was, that the leaders of football leaque didn't want to sell the rights to Premiere anymore. Premiere selve didn't want to alow other free TV to send some games (full or as extract in news) shortly after Premiere has done. So Premiere wanted astronomic prices for the licenses.
So the football managers were afraid of loosing interest (and of course money) all about for this sport.
So a new pay TV company was founded, ARENA. Founders were T-Com (german telephone company) and - surprise - a group of football managers.

Unfortunately they had no TV-channel to send on. Terristic Channels in Germany are controlled by goverment. Cable-channels need also permissions by goverment. Then idea was to use a set-top-box and transfer the matches via DSL.

But most of the germans did not have a fast internet-connection (either it was to expensive or simply not available).

In this way ARENA was forced to find a partner with free capacity. And magically one partner was found. Guess who?

That is the story behind.
The only advantage is now, that more people will see (more and) earlier the Bundesliga, because Premiere had to give up their plans.
