Thinking about changing my TV but having had a brilliant TV with all the features for the past 10 years I need to have similar features on a hdtv as well. At the moment I have a Philips 100htz 32" CRT with pip and this is an absolute must if I change TV's. I want an LCD hdtv set for connection with a PS3 and an Xbox 360 and am confused by some of Philips new range. On the one below, 42pf5421, which sells for £799 there is picture in graphic which says in the user manual(from the philips site) that you can view a HDMI or PC source while watching another channel, it only has one tuner but what I can't understand does this mean you can't view 2 ext sources at the same time? Anyone know or got one?

This LCD tv, 42pf9731d, has dual screen and twin tuner which I assume is twin digital tuner. This obviously has full pip features and other things and is around £1900. Anyone got one of these?

Answered my own question with research. The cheaper Philips LCD sets only have a picture in graphic which is text and picture on the screen at the same time. The full picture in picture facility is still only available with the £1500 and over Philips LCD's. Also this is the same with Sony. Their cheapest picture and picture dual screen LCD is £1800, Sony KDL40X2000. This is probably the one I would choose as it has full hd 1080p and so is pretty future proof. More research needed before I buy me thinks.

Hey, Bonovox. Your research is great value. I'm looking to buy myself a decent flat screen TV for use with my 360 console and the Sony one sounds good. My current Sony 32in CRT has twin tuners and it splits the screen into to 16in pictures which u can listen to independantly. I would love a flat screen that can do this as it really is useful. Thanks for the advice, I'll check them out.

Yep I think you'll find that the Sony KDL-40X2000 is the cheapest that will do what your crt will do, exactly as you described it. Of course when buying a top of the range tv its always between a Sony and a Philips, it always has been for me. My Philips CRT 32" pip W/S has been the best bit of electrical equipment I have ever bought. I have had it 10 years now. Its gonna take some beating when I finally replace it but I am dying to see what the xbox 360 and the ps3 will look like on a HD LCD TV. The Sony KDL-40X2000 gets plenty of good reviews so that looks like the one to choose if you got the money that is and it has 1080p which the latest Philips haven't, . Also recommended is the more expensive Philips 42PF9830/10 so thats also worth considering but is £300 or so more.

the gadget show on channel 5 this week said that samsung 40" was best under £1000 lcd tv and best plasma was philips 42" . Both rated as good as each other for different reasons and both HD ready with freeview digital tuner.
