Current price for Pioneer PDP4270XD ranges from £1178 to £1629.
I bought one in December and returned it because the picture was so bad. It was impossible to watch football or any other sport on it because of motion blur.
I spoke to a technician at Pioneer about the problems I was experiencing and the comments were:
1. "There's no point in exchanging it because you will have the same problem with any Pioneer set."
2. "I have a CRT set and wouldn't exchange it for any money."
You can draw your own conclusions regarding these comments.
If you are going to invest in a Plasma / LCD TV, make sure that you have carefully viewed "over the air" pictures before you buy. Do not rely on pictures being fed via a DVD, as is the custom in most retailers.
have to say i have a hitachi 42" plasma PD9700, looked at a lot of sets prior to buying and have to say i love it, dont watch football but from what i have seen the pic is fine. they have had some power supply problems though but hitachi do know about it and mine is silent when on with no hissis. :)

Have Pioneer PDP427XD and all i can say is you must have had faulty unit.
Picture quality is fantastic unless you are less than 12 inches away. By far the best plasma around at the moment.
As for football no blur or motion issues even on ART

A couple of things to bear in mind before you take the plunge.
1. Buy your TV using a credit card to give you extra protection.
2. If you buy it via the Internet then the statutory "distance selling" regulations apply in the U.K.
This means that, within the first ten to fourteen days, you have the right to change your mind and return the goods for a full refund. You don't have the same rights when buying from a store. They "may" refuse to accept a return.
I realise that many reputable shops have good returns policies but they are not statutory.
My return was TV No.2
The first one arrived with a smashed screen.
After the comments from the technicians and the double hassle, I didn't want to risk a third one.

Unless the Pioneer plasmas have suddenly taken a dive in build quality, I find the above comment by a Pioneer techy very hard to believe.
I have a PDP434HDE, I bought it for £4200 about 3 years ago, it has fantastic picture quality, especially in SD & HD mode, no plasma or LCD TV's are at their best displaying ****ogue transmissions, they are not really designed for that, so if that is how you were watching your football, maybe that was the problem, I am an electronic engineer in the TV/Satellite industry and am therefor very critical when assessing picture quality, I wouldn't swap my 3 year old Pioneer for anything I've seen over the last few years:)

Hi
I've just been given one of these, a 37", as a guarantee replacement for a Sony 32" Wega IDTV after 4 years, by John Lewis. I absolutely agree about some motion blur, especially horizontally scrolling captions, which at some speeds are totally unreadable. In most other respects it's at least as good as the Wega, with exception of face detail. I either watch the integrated Freeview tuner or an RGB feed from a satellite RX, at the moment I've no HDMI or HD feeds. I'm a nearly retired broadcast engineer, with particular responsibility for picture quality; all I can suggest is buying with a credit card from JL; they will still price match with other shops but not internet suppliers, and offer their 5 year warranty; my Panasonic came with a new 5 year warranty as well.

Hi all,
Gotta agree with Bob,I also have Pioneer PDP434HDE nearly 4 years old now and cost me £4,500 at the time, still a fantastic picture, but yes rubbish picture with ****ogue reception but i didnt buy it to watch ****ogue tv,but give it a decent feed via HDMI my e.g. Humax HDCI2000 high def receiver or PS3 Blu-Ray or Xbox 360 HD-DVD and it still shines, just watched Casino Royale on Blu-Ray today, was best set around at the time, must have been a duff one you had,and still better picture quality than my month old 40" Samsung lcd,but that only cost £719,when i was looking with the Panasonic you had to buy a diifferent board for it depending on what you wanted to input/output to it and it also had no HDMI,The Pioneer is still a brilliant set and I would definately buy another one, they are only about £1300 now,the only thing my Pioneer really lacks now is HDMI inputs but i have solved that problem and bought a seperate 4 way HDMI switchbox, lol
Regards nibber :)

Plasma or LCD tvs cannot beat CRT picture quality at this stage. CRT pictures are the best pictures money can buy at the moment and dont let anyone tell you any different! CRTs are still the best.
Im a TV engineer (I fix TVs for a living). I see plenty of tvs and the best pictures are always produced by the big heavy CRTs.
I wouldnt buy a flat panel (LCD or plasme) tv for any money!
