Hi,
I need some advice desperately. I bought a new TOM TOM one from Amazon which came today. It worked fine until I decided to connect it to my computer to install the speed cameras. During this the computer crashed and now the unit appears knackered. It will only go to the main page -tom tom and 2 big red hands showing.
when I connect it to computer again an explorer page pops up with 6 files and 2 folders in ie contents of tom tom. one folder just has a blan log file the other folder calld ttntool wont open. It gives the message corrupted file etc.
The tom tom home program says the device is not connected when it is.
This looks pretty terminal to me but if anyone can can suggest how I can get the correct files back in this I would be gratefull. Otherwise I will have to send it back as faulty,
regards, Mike.

Try pressing the re-set button - not sure where it is on your TT one, but will probably be somewhere near to the mount connection & will be a small hole - gently use a paper clip to reset.

OK - try connecting to Tomtom Home & select upgrade. You can put your memory card into a card reader to do this. If this still doesn't work don't give up, you can get a copy of the software & copy it back to your memory card.

If the above post didn't work you can get an earlier version of the software from Tomtom -

http://www.tomtom.com/support/category.php?ID=1&**********1&FID=3581
Once you have this installed you should then be able to upgrade through Tomtom Home.

sounds to me like you have tried to copy the files from the tomtom to your computer and in doing this you have deleted the main system files and maps these cards in the tomtom are like eeproms when you read them they delete the files the only way you are going to get this working again is to delete the whole media card and reload it again if you have the software backed up on you computer then you will be ok but if you backed it up with the tomtom software then this dont back the maps up and you will have to find the uk map files from the net.

Thamks to Russell and clarkie for your help so far. OK as my computer was saying the few remaining files were corrupt I have formatted the memory card completely (coming up as drive K). Now I need exactly what was on there before. Would someone be kind enough to email me the files (system files and UK and Ireland map files) so I can put them to the card and hopefully all will be ok again. My email is
mikevwgolf@y a h o o.co.uk
Thanks in advance, regards, Michael,

You can get the software (system files) from Tomtom from the link I posted & then you can upgrade to the latest software using Tomtom HOME.
Do you know the exact version & name of your map ? eg :- United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ir eland
Version 660.1199 - or 660.1219
Or anything different ? If you don't get the correct map name & version your activation code will not work (but there is a keygen available :D)

I loaded something called 5.450. Now the memory card has the following 7 files on it.
connecttointernet databasefile,
connecttointernet.ver,
install.bif,
ttsystemfile,
connecttointernet.so,
data.chk recovered file fragments,system.file
What files and or folders are now missing? All of this I dont understand as I`m a novice at this. Is there somewhere I can download all the necessary remainings files and /or folders so the unit will be returned to as new condition. Tomtom Home says device is not connected when it is and turned on. A symbol asking me to remove memory card is on the screen permamently. This is a brand new version2 tomtom one. If someone can read or copy all the files and folders from their card and mail them to me I would be gratefull. It should have been write protected and the speed cameras loaded then I would not have caused all this trying to load them.It said "now with free speed cameras" but never said the user has to download them and program them to the unit,
email is

Michael

1) Did you download Tomtom V5.430 from here ?

http://www.tomtom.com/support/category.php?ID=1&**********1&FID=3581
2) You say you have formatted your memory card - how did you format it & what type of format did you use - FAT or FAT32 ?
You should of used FAT.
3) Did you connect your Tomtom to your PC & follow the install instructions on the Tomtom site ?
After you have installed this version you should then be able to connect your Tomtom to Tomtom HOME and then upgrade the software to version 6.

Now you should only have the Map folder and the Postcode folder missing. I have sent you details where you might be able to locate these.

Thanks Russell. I formatted memory card by right clicking on drive K which is the card and clicked format in the pop up box. I have no idea about Fats all I know is it wiped the card clean. I then loaded the 5.450 not 5.430. I will register and download the files and try as you said. I dont know about a key. I dont think I got one . I never had to put any key in -it worked from the box. I did have to put in an activation code to get the camera files free. I will get back to you as soon as I load the maps of UK &Irl and the postcode file.
regards , Michael.

I have downloaded the map and postcode file and transferred these into the memory card. The unit still refuses to work. It goes to a page saying remove memory card and hangs there.
The contents of the memory card now is the 7 files I mentioned earlier plus 2 folders one called zip which has 2 files in it and a second folder called Unite kingdom and Ireland with 14 files in it, Is there anything else missing now. Tomtom home does still not recognize that the unit is connected to the computer. All I get a message saying "please connect your tomtom device and turn it on" but its already connected. Dont know where to go from here,
regards,
Michael

Ok I have 2 folders and 7 files in it . Before formatting there was a folder calle TTNtools . Do I not need this again?
If there is anyone out there with a new tomtom one v2 could you please tell me what files and folders are in your memory card,
regards,
Michael.

Sounds like you may of used the wrong formatting on your memory card - guessing you probably chose the FAT32 option - as I think this is the standard for formatting hard drive. Try formatting it again & make sure you select FAT option.
If this still doesn't work then I think you will either have to contact Tomtom support & try to get the software from them, or hope someone else has got a Tomtom One V2 & ask them for a copy of their software.

Once you do manage to get it working make a full working back-up copy.
