The Toshiba HDXE1 is finally here after a long wait and a few delays; two words can sum it up “simply stunning”. Firstly the build quality, as soon as you open the box you are greeted with a full aluminium chassis which when you take it out of the box, instantly makes it feel like it’s worth the money. With great control of HD-DVD playback and a superb 1080p scaler on board, the XE1 produces jaw dropping pictures with HD DVD’s and on standard definition DVD’s. With the build quality and price of the first players hindering the launch of the competing Blu-Ray format, the Toshiba HDXE1 throws down the high definition gauntlet with poise and gusto. In fact it’s so good I had to buy one myself.:D

Just got one on your advice and i must say that i'm very dissappoined. Normal Satellite TV now looks completely rubbish and i'm going to have to upgrade to an HD receiver as well! So thanks alot mate!

Seriously, with the amount of HD DVDs available on E B A Y its been worth it, the quality is amazing. Region Free US DVDs are also a strong point - could be the downfall of BluRay...

:) I recieved mine on Monday and tested it all day with a Enter the Dragon hd dvd and the Quality is superb it is just brilliant crystal clear picture quality and was impressed as i only paid £485 for mine :D

Blue ray and HD are the same just two seperate formats

and i think HD will take over later on in time to come

i recieved mine with all cables and with new firmware installed

i read in other places that some ppl recieved thier dvd player with the new firmware on a seperate disk to install them selvs but it's all good as it saved me all that hastle

i also bought a good comosite cable red green and blue 2.5m long for only £3.99pence from ****e were it is alot more expencive from other places supports hd ;)

so i got all i need for the moment untill i save up for a hd writer for my pc when a good one arives in future :)

Only problem is that 1st generation machines are very slow loading your film ready to play and that goes for either format. I here that 2nd generation is not that much better either so I think I will be waiting until the end of the year before I jump in and spend my pennies

All i can say is that connected to my Full HD 1080P Sony KDL40W2000 via HDMI Cable, the HD Picture is Supurb. Rich and Detailed, watched Casino last night and even noticed a loose thread on the back of a suit!

Loading doesnt seem overly slow, certainly not more than 10 seconds from closing the drawer. How fast does it need to be?

Yes it is awsome and dodahday when you press power on the dvd player takes up to 20 seconds to start up but then after you press button to eject your dvd tray it opens strait away and so you then load your dvd disk and press close on your remote it closes strait away and starts your film within 10 seconds like Dirkus say's and your all rolling then

that's all there is m8

some ppl just exajurate abit when putting it thier way on other forums i read the same but it is a good machine overall

and i think it is biuld to last

not as the third model which is out in a month or two which will be alot cheaper than the first two and will be in a cheap plastic cover and with cheap parts and no 5.1 audio connection on back etc ;)

Yes you're right, the build quility is very very good. Even a solid remote with back light. Worth every penny.

Dirkus i have a question for you i have every thing working but does your player dispay the time ???

as in the setting's menue you can enter time zone and correct the time and date but does not display on the front of my player ???

when you start the player it does display the welcome and goodbye and when playing a dvd movie the display does show other stuff like the the mins etc but not the time clock

Sorry, mine doesn't either! In the manual i cannot actually find any reference to it at all. Are you sure its supposed to be displayed on the front? I could understand it being displayed on a video recorder but no real need on a DVD player; so Toshiba probably didn't make it so - could be 'fixed' with a BIOS upgrade though...

seems it is normal then

or the firmware update might have coused this

because in the setup menue you can correct the time zone and time and date then save but dont you think it should be displayed as what good is it when it isnt displayed any were els lol

it's just a thought :)
