16:40pm The People That Time Forgot (U) 1977

Based on a tale by Edgar Rice Burroughs, this adventure features prehistoric monsters, raging volcanoes and a harassed Patrick Wayne, who is trying to rescue his marooned naval officer friend (Doug McClure) from a forgotten civilisation. Fans of Star Wars might want to keep an eye out for Darth Vader actor David Prowse, who appears as an executioner. A sequel to cult classic The Land That Time Forgot, directed by Kevin Connor, maker of other low-budget fantasies At the Earth's Core and Warlords of Atlantis (888)

18:25pm The Bridges of Madison County (12) 1995

Housewife Meryl Streep meets itinerant photographer Clint Eastwood as he makes a record of rural Iowa's famous covered bridges. It isn't long before the pair realise each has found the soulmate they've been seeking all their lives. Slow-moving romantic drama, bolstered by director and star Eastwood's careful handling and the stunning scenery. Also starring Annie Corley, Victor Slezak and Jim Haynie. Based on the novel by Robert James Waller (888)

21:00pm The Usual Suspects (18) 1995

Bryan Singer's thriller stars Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro, Kevin Pollak and Stephen Baldwin as criminals brought together by a police line-up, who decide to join forces to pull off one more big job. But they discover their meeting was not a coincidence, as a mysterious crime lord has plans for them. The taut, Oscar-winning screenplay boasts a series of twists and turns unsurpassed in cinema, with a final denouement designed to knock viewers' socks off. Pete Postlethwaite, Chazz Palminteri and Suzy Amis also star (888)

23:00pm The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (18) 1974

Tobe Hooper's notorious horror about a psychopathic family who dispatch a group of youngsters in a variety of grisly ways, before the last in line manages to make her escape, pursued by chainsaw-wielding villain Leatherface. 15:00 Laura Film (1944)

Otto Preminger's sharp film stars Dana Andrews as Mark McPherson, a cynical detective who investigates the brutal murder of a beautiful woman only to be faced with plenty of suspects - and the unnerving knowledge that he is falling in love with the dead woman. The sleekest of murder mysteries, and well ahead of its time.

16:40 Julia Film (1977)

Fred Zinnemann's sensitive and compelling dramatisation tells of the awakening in the 1930s of playwright Lillian Hellman (Jane Fonda) to the growing threat of Naziism through the persecution and final execution of her childhood friend Julia (Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave).

19:00 A Shot In The Dark Film (1964)

Peter Sellers' Clouseau sets out to prove chambermaid Elke Sommer's innocence in this inspired and irresistible comedy - the second, outing for the daft Inspector. His hunt for the true killer is, of course, suitably chaotic. Directed by Blake Edwards.

21:00 Collateral Film (2004)

A hitman arrives in Los Angeles to do five hits in a night, with the unwitting help of a cab driver. Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx star in this compelling Michael Mann noir.

23:15 L.A. Confidential Film (1997)

Russell Crowe stars as a tough LA cop working alongside cynical Kevin Spacey and promotion-hungry Guy Pearce in Curtis Hanson's Oscar and BAFTA award-winning film. As the three try to solve a complex murder they begin to realise that the corruption of Tinseltown will pull them all down unless they act together.

02:50 The Return Film (2003)

Andrei Zvyagintsev's drama sees two young teenage boys return home to find a stranger on the bed, claiming to be their longlost father. He announces he's taking them on a fishing trip but as the trio set off, one of the boys begins to think he is a murderous gangster while the other just wants to believe papa has come home. A stunning debut from an assured director. In Russian with English subtitles.

19:05 Evolution Film (2001)

Superior police thriller, cut from the same cloth as 70s classics like The French Connection, and showcasing career-best work from its two leads as they trawl Detroit's rancid underbelly for a cop killer.

01:00 The Hard Word Film (2002)

A trio of bank robber brothers are forced into a bloody final job by a corrupt prison governor. Black and brutal Australian crime drama starring Rachel Griffiths and Guy Pearce.
