Hi

After switching my Humax 5400z off last night at the power source, I awoke to find when I switched it on the next morning nothing happend apart from a slight ticking noise. I have tried changing the fuse but that didnt work all I get is a ticking noise (no lights, nothing), I am wondering if it is the power supply. Anyway does anyone know where I would be able to purchase a power supply for my Humax.

Thanks

J

Its probably a power supply fault. Id be going for the capacitors in the primary side of the power supply. Ive never worked on one of these before but if you could upload a picture if the power supply I could show you which capacitors to replace.

Theres probably 2 or 3 in the primary side (between the mains input and the transformer).

One of them will be rated at about 400v (Dont bother with this one). Change the other 1 or 2 smaller ones in the primary side and see if it comes back to life.

If that doesnt work, then its probably a capacitor. Or a diode(gone s/c or leaky) in the secondary side of the power supply.

Im sure though they can be brought back to life with a bit of guidance and some parts that will only cost less then a couple of £s. :D

I reckon ; a repair will be cheaper then a replacement PSU

i have repaired loads of psu's before.

most of the time it only requires 3 componets and they cost less than £1 combined.

the stickies will tell you what parts mate.

when doing an advanced reply click on the paperclip icon and add you files in the new popup window, make sure the image type is recognised ie jpeg

if they are not stick them in a zip file and post them that way

failing that pm them to me in zip format and i will post them up for you

Still getting same problem trying to pm, I have taken the psu out of the hummy and once plugged in the thing called ZD3 which is a Z-diode 30V / 500mW is ticking and flashing red

ok, it should not do that

change zd3, r21, c9 and c13.

if this does not work change all the parts listed in the picture.

also check to see if the large cap (right hand side of the pic) see if the top is swolen, if it is you will need to change this as well.

thanks to humax zone for the pic!

if the zenner has gone more than likely caps are on there way out (mainly c9) it may be a good idea to change them all (especially if they have swollen tops)

however if it is working for the moment this is good news!

If you`re not that confident around mains electricity here`s an option, uprated Humax 5*** range of Power Supplies @ £18.50, see here h**p://cgi.****.co.uk/ws/****ISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330126619400&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:UK:11 or do a search for item no. 330126619400.
Worked well for me.:D
